Finally a Magnetic Product that Stands the Test
Over the past two years I have used several different brands of magnetic spheres. Some were cheap and some were par for the course on price. Some were what I considered name brands (based on their marketing efforts) and some were non-name brands. With my use of these products over the last two years I have found that Zen Magnets have by far the best quality and highest usability of all the brands. The gift zen set is a victim of the swiss army knife satisfaction paradox here on Amazon. That is, imperfect extras are added to the list of cons, despite the primary components being better. So the mediocre pocket knife ends up having better ratings than the similarly priced top notch epic pocket knife that includes a weak toothpick.There are simply no magnet spheres of higher quality, consistency and longevity than zen magnets. I'm stunned that there are 3 star reviews for this product. Zen's construction guide alone, is worth the price difference, and makes the buckyball guide look comical enough for a yakety sax soundtrack. Fun little things...
I love these things! Nanodots are awesome! You can make shapes and pull out little lines of maganets. I've only had two problems with these. First, their size. These things are about the size of a BB. There small. This makes them easy to lose. I have already lost two of them in the first 2 days of having them. So instead of 216, I have 214. The other is the price. I might have gotten a different color if they weren't $5.00 more expensive. I'm sorry, but $35.00 is really expensive for these things. I think all colors should be the same price, and the price should be around $20 - $25 dollars. Its $35.00 for these, and $40.00 for the other colors. Oh yah, and the picture of this product does not match what you get, which I like. You get the really cool packaging (that cylinderical plastic tube) that the other colors get, you don't get these in a box like the picture shows. Great office desk toy
Pros: So much fun to play with, mine is 'cooling off' at home to keep me out of trouble with the boss. Magnets appear high quality (no obvious defects in surface, size, roundness, magnetism, etc.) and pretty good strength compared to competitors. I am quite satisfied playing with my....nanodots. Yes, that's what I was going to say...Cons: A bit expensive for a desk toy, but rare earth magnets generally aren't cheap (thanks a lot, Chinese near-monopoly). Also, keep far far away from dirt and children.

Don't eat Buckyballs
These little magnetic balls can be configured in many different ways. One package is not enough to create all the impressive looking structures these balls beckon to invent. I now have 4 packages and am able to construct a more flexible array of interesting sculptures. Ultimately I find playing with the dots to be a soothing stress release.

A mixed bag
I own several sets of the competing product, Bucky Balls.There aren't as good as Bucky Balls, seeming to have about half the strength. The Bucky Balls you can easily form in a giant loop without them breaking, these barely hold in longer strands. I was hoping to use these as a cheap source of replacement balls for my Bucky Ball sets, but not such luck. It's obvious when I substitute them in.And this is a vendor issue more than the item itself, but when shipped, these came loose in the shipping box with a pamphlet and a little carrying bag.On the plus side, the box had 224 balls in it, not 216. So at least this set has some extras.

Same size as bucky balls. Not completely the same though.
I have had the BuckyBalls brand magnets for a while. They're a lot of fun and creative, but they're pricey for a little office toy. I saw these Magnet Balls and decided to give them a shot because they're nearly half the price of BuckyBalls. Having read some reviews for other BuckyBalls competitors I was concerned that these would be differently sized than BuckyBalls. Well these are exactly the same as BuckyBalls as far as appearance goes. The only difference so far is that they don't seem as powerful as buckyballs. It's very subtle, but obvious after having played with BuckyBalls for so long. They also seem a tiny bit lighter in weight. Perhaps that's why they're cheaper. There may be less magnetic material in each ball.Despite them not being quite as great as buckyballs, they're still pretty great. If you've never played with BuckyBalls, you probably wouldn't know the difference. You can make all the same shapes, and it's a decent value.

Great little science experiment
Great little science experiment, endless patterns, endless fun. My brother and nephew could not put it down all day on Christmas. They seem to be good quality, very strong magnets and the little tin container is very cute. There are a couple of warnings, keep them away from small children. Some have died after swallowing a couple of these strong magnets as they can stick the intestines together and occlude them. Also, little magnets like these can do permanent damage (erase) to your credit and bank cards (and any other card which uses a magnetic strip) which can be a royal pain when you try to use them.

Fun with Glittery Hands
These magnetic ball bearings are great for a desk job and lots of fun to play with. You can do a lot of things with them and it really is hours of fun. I have have these for about 2 days and today I noticed that my hands are covered with what looks like glitter. Evidently the chrome coating is peeling off. I am sure it it not a big deal and I have been playing with them extensively.I also have not used other brands of this product so I am not sure that this does not happen with every brand.again this these are fun with glittery hands.

Good fun, very poor durability
I've had my set for 3mo now, and I handle them for a few minutes probably every day. I give this toy a poor review because now, after only 3mo of use, the balls are starting to rub off on my hands. After just a few minutes of playing with them, my hands are covered in a metallic gunmetal super-fine powder. It looks similar to graphite from a pencil, after extended periods of use. It's annoying enough that I dont play with it nearly as often. I wonder, if I had bought the more expensive brand, would the balls have had high enough quality that this wouldn't happen?

Great Product
I bought these as a gift for my father, and I also bought some for myself. These Nanodots are great and you can do numerous things with them. The only thing that I disliked about them was that about after about 3 months of light use I did notice the surface covering the Nanodots did begin to rub off onto my hands when handling them. It is easily washed off with some soap and water, but I thought from other reviews that they would last a little longer before the coating on them would start to rub off. Although this has occurred it has not affected the function of this product. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone.

Just as good as Buckyballs, but less expensive
My girlfriend got a set of Buckyballs for her father for Christmas, and I spent all Christmas day playing with them. As soon as I got home, I ordered these since they got decent reviews and were 2/3 of the price. I just got them, but they appear to be every bit as good as the name-brand Buckyballs.Each magnet is about the size of a BB, which is standard for Buckyballs or any Buckyball imitation. This set is not black as advertised--it's more of a gunmetal gray. I don't particularly care about color, so this didn't matter to me.I performed the rigid stick tests outlined in a comparison between Buckyballs and Zen Magnets (another Buckyball imitation), and this product compared well with the Zen Magnets (which actually performed better than Buckyballs, according to the video I watched). When formed into a rigid stick, these magnets were straight and did not wobble when perturbed. When cantilevered over an edge, the rigid stick broke with a 24 magnet chain...

Creativity, Imagination, and Stress Relief!
These are the coolest magnetic balls. They are incredibly strong. One ball can hold the weight of the entire 216 ball set. They are great to pass the time and come up with new patterns.They are polarized (they have a positive and negative) so manipulating them into shapes can take a gentle hand and patience as you work them to rotate around. The possibility of shapes are endless but having two or more sets can open up new doors. These are small balls, about the size of a BB pellet each.An additional benefit is the stress relief. They are great for keeping nervous hands busy during a stressful time.My 6 year old (under supervision) loves them too since they are so easy to manipulate.They are so much fun in their own quirky way and worth every penny. "Magnet Balls" vs. "Buckyballs"
My girlfriends dad got a set of :Buckyballs" from work and has them sitting around the house. So I had used them quite a bit and after a while decided to buy my own. I bought the black "Magnet Balls" because they were less expensive, but didn't know if the quality would be any different. So here is my assessment of the differences.1. The coating on the "Buckyballs" started flaking off after about a week of frequent use, whereas the coating on the "Magnet Balls" has yet to start to chip away, and I have had them for about a week and have used them to almost the same extent as the others had been used. Due to the flaking on the "Buckyballs," it seems that when they are all in a strand, they don't line up perfectly in a straight line. This doesn't cause to much of an issue because they are only offset slightly, but it still bothers me.
