Great travel zoom
I wasn't sure I'd like this lens from the mixed reviews, but after using mine for 3 weeks on my Pentax K-5 I'd say it's one of the best super zooms you can get for a Pentax DSLR.Pros:Weather resistant in rain, snow, etc.Excellent color and contrastAuto focus is very quick on my K-5 and quietSolid build, especially compared to other plastic extending zoomsNot a macro, but works surprising well for flower shotsReally smooth bokeh for closeups and telephotoReversible lens hoodAuto focus doesn't move the focus ring, but can be moved manually anytime for adjustmentsResistant to flare and ghostingCons:Focus ring has no scale and can be moved past the "stops"It's a varifocal zoom (zooming requires you to refocus a bit)No aperture ring (unfortunately this is becoming a trend)Manual focus ring is usable, but not ideal since it only turns 90 degrees (before reaching the soft stops)Some...

My copy is amazing on K-5
I am not a pro but I have several Limited primes, the famous DA* 50-135 F2.8 and my trusted walkaround on Pentax K-x Tamron 28-75 F2.8. For some reason my new K-5 (it seems to be acting out, not sure what is the problem) doesn't like the Tamron. The 50-135 F2.8 is a bit heavy/big for random shooting, so the latest DA 18-135 with its very positive reviews and weatherproofing looked tempting. I had my doubts but when the price went down and rain kept pouring, I took a plunge. To my greatest surprise (perfect zooms don't exist, the laws of physics etc) w/o pixel peeping the image quality in many cases was on par with my best lenses ("out of box", neither one was microadjusted) and the rest was above average (the lens assembled in Vietnam). Especially for close ups at the long end wide open or 1/2-1 stops down (many reviewers on Pentaxforums didn't like the performance at the long end). Great colors, surprisingly not only in good light but also under grey sky around 6pm (far...

Pretty good
From my experience with Pentax's superb non-zoom lenses, I had hoped this would be "perfect" also. But like most long-range zooms I've tried, it gets soft in the corners on some settings. So for really critical work, I go for my primes, like the 50mm 1.4. But for travel and street photography, this is very good. It's not fast, so Pentax's nice in-body stabilization comes in handy, for a bit slower shutter speeds.
