Hitting a baseball is challenging in real life. The Show 10 duplicates this perfectly.
First of all, let me just say this is a fantastic representation of a high level of baseball. I am a former pro and I love the realism of this game. The pitcher/batter interface is perfect. The new gameplay cameras are outstanding. The immersion factor is just like a real game, both playing and watching it on TV. The more you understand the mental part of baseall, the better you will do, if you execute what you know. Job well done Sony!It is a nice, solid upgrade over 09. If a few people have trouble seeing that, they need to look in the mirror. The new upgrades are definitely there, in presentation and gameplay.I have noticed a theme in the reviews about the difficulty of hitting the ball and recognizing if the pitch is a Ball or Strike. I think it is very well done and realistic. Hitting a round baseball with a round bat has been said to be the hardest thing to do in sports, especially when its got late movement and coming in 90+ MPH In reality,...

Baseball gaming for the dedicated baseball fan
I've been playing The Show series since it's inception, and have previously offered my reviews concentrating only on the baseball gamer who enjoys playing through a full MLB season vs: the CPU. This review will be much the same, emphasizing the pros and cons of this game, largely compared to previous game versions. I'll only mention the other available game modes in passing (Road To The Show, Home Run Derby, etc), as I don't play those much, if at all. I'll start with my background, since I think it's helpful to know where a reviewer is coming from, in terms of specifically baseball experience/interest, and also in baseball gaming experience- particularly since with this series (Road To The Show), it should be clear by now that this is NOT a game for casual gamers, or those with only a passing interest in baseball. I'm 55 years old, played competitive baseball up to a college level, and have remained an avid fan since hanging up the spikes about 33 years ago. I've played just about...

The Return of Home Run Derby
The arcade style action of the Home Run Derby returns in MLB 10: The Show. Available through a variety play options, including season modes and a stand-alone mode that can be selected at any time, Home Run Derby is based on the MLB rules and flow of the actual MLB All-star game. In addition, the MLB All-star Futures Game is also available via season modes in its correct timeframe (just before the HR Derby). Will your Road to The Show player be invited to compete in the Home Run Derby or the Futures Game? Swing for the fences and keep your stats high and you may just get the call as the All-star break approaches.

Call the Game as Catcher
The catcher is the brains of any defensive squad on the field, and as such MLB 10: The Show lets you test both your baseball IQ and your skills in the crouch as you call the game, one pitch at a time, from behind the plate. Available during Road to The Show, and exhibition game play options, players cultivate their rookie Minor League catcher and bring him up to the Majors where he can lay down signs to your pitcher, offer additional pitch selections if his first pitch call is shaken off and even change signs at will, all via your controller's face buttons. Pitches are called from a unique first-person perspective, after which the camera angle changes to a standard third-person perspective affording a better view of the entire field. This new functionality defines a whole new level of strategy, demanding knowledge of pitches, opposing batters' tendencies and the state of your own pitcher's well-being, as well as the ability to check runners on base and handle and/or block balls that are in the dirt or wild.

New Defensive Training Options
No ballplayer becomes a golden glove overnight. With that in mind MLB 10: The Show includes new fielding and pitching training modes that augment the existing training functionality built into the game's improved Road to the Show mode. Fielding drills focus both on the basics of player's throwing arm, utilizing the new throw meter, as well as the more advanced combination of throwing and decision-making that players will need during game situations. Pitching training consists of a multi-pronged focus designed to improved control and accuracy. Training in these areas is available in isolated one-on-one battles known as "Knockout," as well as simulated game situations, where goals are clearly defined for each drill.

    • MLB All-star Week consisting of the Home Run Derby and MLB All-star Futures Game.

If you want a challenge, this is the game for you.
I will come back and write a more in-depth review of this game once I have established the newer dynamics of MLB 2010: The Show. I will say this, the pitching aspect of this game is virtually the same as last year. The challenge comes on the offensive side. They have definitely made hitting more of an artform on this year's game as opposed to last year's version. Basically what I have noticed is you have to absolutely square a ball up to make solid contact. On last year's this was critical as well, but in this year's version there is no way you can pull a ball on the outside corner of the plate and expect to get a base knock unless the pitcher just throws you a floater. So far, I have played 4 games, and have yet to win playing on the Legend mode on both the hitting and pitching side of the ball. Like I said, you will not notice a great deal of difference on the pitching side, but the hitting side has definitely become more of a challenge.Another thing I am glad they have...

The PS2 is Staying In the Living Room a Bit Longer
I was well on my way to banishing the PS2 to the basement. This game saved its life. I had been addicted to MLB 09: The Show but grew tired of waiting for the game to load. This version makes many improvements on the game load times though. The game loads much faster in many ways. You no longer have to sit and watch a frozen screen before the system figures out where to go next. The animations are more fluid and realistic. Of course the PS3 version has better graphics, but the one thing I admire about the PS2 version is being able to use my EyeToy to scan pictures into the game. The PS3 can't do that!If you have a PS2 still laying around, scoop up a copy of this game. At (...) it'll bring all the punch and action you'd find in the PS3 version, if not more.

More Realistic...
For 3 years, I had completed 6.5 seasons using MLB07. I didn't want to get the new version because I built such a foundation with the 2007 version but after 6 seasons, the rosters were WAY out of whack and too many computer created players on MLB rosters with the same faces! This new version has its ups and downs. First, the graphics are poorer than MLB07. For example, Mark Teixeira is as white as a ghost. The fieling is a bit better. One plus side is the reality of the game. On MLB07, I was playing using "Hall of Fame" difficulty. In this version, I'm using "Veteran" and am facing a bigger challenge than 07's top level offered. I actually have tough down-to-the-wire games, even with the best of rosters. From that standpoint, it is more realistic with player stats and standings. In MLB07, all of my players batted .300+ and 7 of my 9 batters had over 100 RBIs. In this game, the numbers are more realistic as players hit hold/cold streaks like real life. Pitching is more...

Great game overall
Let me ask all the 1 Star reviewers, compared to MLB 2K10 would you still rate this game 1 Star. I would assume not because 2k10 for PSP is the biggest piece of trash to enter the baseball gaming market. The Show is just a really fun game to play with really great controls and movements. I enjoy it, I really do not care too much about the roster updates because I understand the business aspect of it. If they gave you a new roster every year would anyone buy new games, I think not. It is a little pricey and that's why it did not get the 5 stars but the game is really solid and I really enjoy playing it. I had MLB 2K10 first and I almost threw it out the window it annoyed me so much. Its worth a purchase if you enjoy a nice season of baseball on the plane or on the go. If you want to play online and do all these things then you should probably invest into a PC/PS3. PSP is called portable for a reason so you have something to do on the go.

The game is still fun, but not enough improvements for the $$
The title says it all. This basically the exact same game as the 09 version except for the upgraded rosters. The biggest thing I was looking forward to was the catcher mode. Unfortunately, I didn't do my research and that mode is not available on the PSP. The fact still remains that this is a very fun game, but for the most part it is a recycled version of 09; even the announcer quotes are the exact same! I am looking forward to picking up the PS3 version and getting into the catcher mode. I've never gotten into the actual road to the show feature on this game and was dying to do it this year based off of that catcher mode, but oh well. I'm sure I will enjoy the hell out of the pS3 version. So, if you don't have the 09 version then you should definitely pick this up. However, if you have last year's model, don't waste it on this when you could be putting that money towards the PS3 version!

Just as good as '09
The bright side to this game is that the graphics are better than '09. The ballparks are more detailed along with the diamond and grass. The game is also a little bit easier to play than last year when it comes to hitting the ball. Some things that this game doesn't have is the roster updates. It's not a downer though, it is still a fun game. The road to the show game is the same. The catcher mode, where you call the game in road to the show, is not on the psp version of this game which was a little bit of a disappointment because it would have been a big turn for this game. The announcers have the same lines as last year but overall it is still a very fun game to play. One more upside is that the pitching is better. Sometimes the line your supposed to match with the release point line wasn't that visible, but this year's version the line is darker so it is a lot easier to pitch. I would recommend buying a used version of this for $25-$30 in very good or like new condition...

Not for n00bs
I'll be the first to admit that I suck at MLB 2K10 for the PC. This is my first baseball video game and while it looks great, the learning curve is extremely steep, to the point where it's not fun.The pitching and batting mechanics (using a Xbox360 controller with the PC) are interesting, but you have to be so perfect in the timing and execution that it's a killjoy. While hardcore fans or someone used to the mechanics from a previous MLB 2K not have problems with this, you're going to feel lost if you're a newcomer. Like I said, everything's about timing and execution and the game's drills are very poor in helping you hone your skills. For example, in a pitching drill, every time you throw the ball (a total of fifteen times or so before you need to re-load the drill) you're supposed to do a different pitch. How is that going to teach you anything? It should be set up so if you want to throw a fastball, you can try throwing 200 or so fastballs in a row until you get it...

Better Pitching Through Analytics
As in the previous release in the MLB 2K series, pitching in MLB 2K10 requires a combination of analysis of scouting reports and hurling technique on the mound. Scouting reports are based on 2K Games' exclusive "Inside Edge" data service, which provides up-to-date information on AI representations of real batters across a wide range of data points. With this players can make an educated guess as to their best chances using particular pitches against a particular batter based on everything from the current count, whether it is a night or day game, to how far into the season it is. Pitching technique is centered around a gesture pitching mechanism, where in players deliver pitches through specific controller inputs using face buttons and/or the analog stick. With regards to this, the difference this time around is that in addition to these enacting inputs, MLB 2K10 incorporates a push button pitch selection system. Players must still input the correct series of gestures for the pitch they intend, which are more difficult for more complex pitches, but this new push button step also provides the game with precise information as to what pitch you intend to throw. With is extra information, which the game uses as a baseline for compiling analytics, players can see where their gestures for particular pitches are off, and correct them as need be.

An Improved Hitting Experience with "Batter's Eye"
Players' experience at the plate has also been improved in MLB 2K10 through a combination of data and new features. Just as with pitchers, batters have access to 2K Sports' "Insider Edge" data to help them make better decisions in specific game situations based on a variety of stats related to themselves if playing as a representative of a real MLB player, or the pitcher they face. But the new feature that completely changes the batters experience in "Batter's Eye." With this, highly skilled batters can get occasional, spilt second views of what the pitch is going to be. Used in conjunction with new batting functionality like defensive and contact swings, batters can potentially fend off pitches until the count is in their favor, and/or they are ready to make an educated guess at what the pitch is going to be and swing accordingly. As with the pitching analytics available in defensive positions, offensive players have access to a batting analyzer at the push of a button to figure out what they are doing wrong and right at the plate.

Fielding and Baserunning
Of course baseball isn't just about initial conflict between pitcher and hitter, so MLB 2K10 gives you all you need to finish the play from any place on the field. Fielding and baserunning in MLB 2K10 features easy controls and tons of great animations just as in earlier releases, but in this most recent version players can also now cue up the actions of their players while on defense, or from the basepads with simple controller inputs. In the case of fielders, once the defensive player is selected, simply press the face button for the appropriate base or cutoff man you want. Once your man makes the stop, he will throw to your chosen spot automatically. This is a big help, especially when trying to turn a quick double play, or in the case of a ball that makes it all the way to the wall. Cueing up the actions of base runners is just as easy. For example, in the event of a full count where you want to send your runners regardless of the pitch, or during a steal attempt, simply select your base runner(s) and use your game controller's trigger to set events in motion. If you change your mind you can just as easily send them scrambling back with a the same trigger.

Much better than 2k9
I really like this game. I spent the time to tweek 2k9 and finally got it fun but 2k10 is all around much better. Right away I configured the controller buttons and scaled down the video (had to go to 800x600 with x2 antialiasing because I have an older video card, geforce 6800 GTO). I recommend doing these two steps before playing. After that it was game on. The graphics are smoother, pitching is better, load times are faster, and it has not crashed on me yet. The announcers are good, hitting is tough as it should be, and this is just an all around fun game. I know 2k has struggled to produce a great baseball game and has taken a lot of criticism in the past. I am greatfull for their continued efforts and their commitment to produce the game for the PC. My days of mourning the loss of the EA sports MVP series are finally over... This game is fun and tough in all the right areas. The graphics do not seem quite as detailed as 2k9 but I much prefer the faster load...

Big Learning Curve
Although the box says you can play this game with a keyboard, it's patently untrue. I bought it with that as a condition, then I had to come back and buy an Xbox for Windows controller. Do NOT buy one of the Amazon-recommended Logitech controllers - they fail regularly and quickly. Spend the extra $10 for the Xbox one. It's reliable, sturdy, and comfortable, plus it's much more of a standard among other games. The game itself is visually good, with tons of features, but it is taking me forver to learn how to play, as this is my first try with a PC baseball game in about 10 years. I wish there was a beginner/kids level of play where I could just get right into it. Hope this pays off eventually, as I've really waited for a decent PC baseball action game.

Apple TV - Good Now, Potential to be Great
I am not an Apple Afficianodo. I don't wear jeans and black turtlenecks in reverence to Steve Jobs. I don't hang out at the Apple Store and covet becoming a "genius"; however, I have to give credit where credit is due. The last few products Apple has brought out - the iPod, iPhone, iPad - have been incredible and changed the consumer electronics and media / software landscape. Apple TV is now positioned to do the same, but it will take some more time to fully realize the potential of this device.Apple TV effectively allows you to stream whatever is on your iTunes to your TV and home theater system. Moreover, it has built in support for Netflix, You Tube and a few other internet based media content providers. The picture quality and performance for these services are worth the price of admission. There is significant potential to advance the platform - just give it some time.System Overview: My Apple TV is plugged into a 60 inch Samsung 1080p LED HDTV via...

Unrealized Potential (so far)
PROS*Low Power (less than 6 watts)*Compact*Good-looking UI*Netflix support (unlike previous generation AppleTV)*Remote App for iPad/iPhone/iPod touch*Airplay (though basically we just have Airtunes functionality until iOS 4.2 comes out for iPad/iPhone/iPod touch).*Closed Captions (Content dependent)CONS*Lots of "Loading..." screens*No Local Storage! (must stream over Internet or via iTunes on PC/Mac using Home Sharing. I know you were trying to cut costs Apple, but why not at least allow local USB storage? I know, I know: DRM.)*IR Sensor inferior to previous generation AppleTV (requires more direct line of sight)*Lag before videos and podcasts start playing (even when located on a local computer)*Netflix controls are not as good as Roku. Infrequent keyframes makes it hard to rewind to an exact spot. Roku does much better (and even PS3 Netflix controls are better).*Podcast controls sometimes...

NBA Today
NBA 2K10 is committed to providing a realistic NBA experience. Just one aspect of this is NBA Today, in which all the real world matchups, news and stats are automatically streamed right into your game providing dynamic commentary and presentation elements based upon what is happening in the real NBA.

My Player Mode
My Player Mode is perhaps the most exciting new feature built into NBA 2K10. Instead of focusing on over all team status, My Player Mode is a career mode, allowing players at home create the ultimate NBA player from the ground, up and guide his every career move. Start as an undrafted rookie in the Summer Leagues, where you specify every aspect of your character's game and physical makeup. Work hard enough throughout the series of games played here, gathering enough experience points along the way to build the skills your player needs at his position and you may get an invite to participate in an NBA team’s training camp. And if you don't make the cut, not to worry there is always the D-League, where you can work more on your game until you get your next shot. Either way, the road to being an NBA star is a long and hard battle full of challenges.

Crews
Basketball is a team sport, and NBA 2K10 acknowledges this with its Crew functionality. Round up your friends and build the ultimate squad, using either your created players from My Player mode or an actual NBA team, then go online and battle other Crews for bragging rights and progression points as you try to climb your way to the top of the Crew leaderboard rankings.

Living Rosters
The 2K Insider and his team of NBA analysts continue to keep NBA 2K10 fresh with up-to-date team and player information, including roster and lineup moves, trades, injuries and player ratings. Now track all of the changes through the season with interactive menus and analysis.

Seamless Online Experience
Forget the past, with NBA 2K10 online play is fully incorporated into every mode of the game. Now you can play the AI, challenge the friend sitting next to you or play your buddy across town anytime, from anywhere in the game. The game features 1-4 player support in versus and coop play locally and 2-10 player support in versus and coop play online with up to a full five man roster on each side.

Signature Play
Signature Play pulls together all of NBA 2K’s player Signature Styles and adds in all-new Signature Tendencies and facial expressions, creating NBA 2K10 teams that play and react like their real life counterparts for an unbelievably realistic NBA experience.

New Intuitive Offensive Controls
All-new easy-to-use dribbling and post game controls allow you to pull off ankle breaking Iso-Motion moves and dominate like Kobe from the perimeter to the paint.

Shut Down D
Every NBA star knows that offense is flashy, but defense wins championships. With this in mind NBA 2K10 gives you the opportunity to show your stuff at both ends of the court. Shut down teams like never before with innovative defensive controls that allow you to shadow your opponent’s every move, deny position off-ball, and even select how you want to contest shots.

Too much attention to presentation, not nearly enough attention on gameplay
2K and Live b-ball hasn't been a contest in the last few years, as 2K has always been the one to buy. I was really hyped up for this year's version, especially after the amazing trailers.Unfortunately, 2K Sports released an unfinished game full of glitches to meet the deadline. I will only list some of the glitches I've had happen: player moving backwards 8-10 feet, like a teleportation; getting a traveling violation after a scored basket; the inbounder running backwards in place until you get a 5 second violation; made dunks not counting count and everyone keeps playing; the game clock freezing at the end of a quarter; graphics displays, like the current conference standings, taking up the screen so you can't see (while the ball is in play); delays in the crowd noise reactions to plays. A lot of the glitches will be fixed with downloadable patches, but I'm reviewing the game as it is now.For the positives, the graphics are much improved over 2K9. Online,...

Ho hum
I played the heck out of NBA 2k9, so I was excited about NBA 2k10, especially because of the My Player mode. However, the one thing that ruins sports games for me is the bread and butter play...you know, the play you can use to score every time? Well, NBA 2k10 suffers from the same thing (ironically) that's plagued the Live series for years, dominating point guards. Even on Hall of Fame difficultly, I can take Jason Kidd and score 60 against the Lakers. I've adjusted sliders, but to no avail in fixing the issue. What I usually do is start on the wing drive toward the top of the key, do a quick hesitation and then blow by the defender and down the lane for an easy lay-up...it works every time. And when I get tired of that, it's really easy to exploit the AI defense. Just keep passing around the 3 pt line until a guy goes down low for an easy lay-up. It's that simple. I'm serious on this too, and I'll say it again, sliders don't fix anything. The AI defense...

3B Pablo “Kung Fu Panda” Sandoval rebounded last year from an awful 2010 season and should be the Giants best hitter with a projected 5. In 2010, the San Francisco Giants won the World Series on the backs of their four young starters and rookie catcher Buster Posey. Why the Giants have refused to name Belt the starter heading into 2012 is beyond me. Assuming the Giants come to their senses by mid-May and start giving those at-bats to Belt, the Giants could scrape by with a 27 projected total WAR for their... In fact, the trio may be better this year than they were in 2010. The biggest potential source of offensive improvement from last year is second year player 1B Brandon Belt. Bumgarner made only 18 starts in his rookie year, but emerged as potentially the team’s best pitcher last season with 5. Now that Posey is finally healthy again this spring, the Giants will take a mulligan on their title defense from last year and attempt to reclaim their throne atop the NL West. That chance was lost last May when Marlins OF Scott Cousins bowled over C Buster Posey in a home plate collision, shattering Posey’s ankle and causing him to miss the rest of the season. The 2011 season was a chance for the Giants to prove their legitimacy by winning the NL West and making another deep playoff run. As I mentioned last week, the three favorites in Vegas to win the World Series this year are the Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees, and Philadelphia Phillies. Stud closer Brian Wilson, another World Series hero, battled elbow issues last season but should return healthy again in 2012. At the back end of the rotation, Jonathan Sanchez was replaced last year with Ryan Vogelsong, another young pitcher good for 2. 2 WAR in relief last year.
