The best book for baby garment
I started sewing to make something for my coming baby, which means I was new to sewing. Yet I was able to prepare almost the complete wardrobe for my baby with this book. The patterns and instructions are SUPERB.People wouldn't belive they're homemade unless I reveal so.Plus there are many options for variation if you want, and after studying carefully, it wasn't hard to imagine some variation myself.I learned a lot, saved a lot of money, and could calm down the anxiety of the third trimester sewing for my baby.I recommend this book to any people with a little bit of knack for craft and and time. Just a word: buying a serger (in addtiion to a sewing machine) will save you a lot of time.

Great clothes for kids!
When my son was born, I was really frustrated by the lack of commercial patterns available for little boys. It's a wasteland; I had 800 choices of sundress but no comfortable, durable patterns that didn't involve daisy applique!I stumbled across Kwik Sew while taking my machine in to be serviced and it has been invaluable. I can't praise the patterns too much. The sizing is excellent, the patterns go together unfailingly (and anyone who's ever struggled with a poorly drafted pattern knows how frustrating it is when they don't!) and there are an almost limitless variation to explore. I've made dozens of clothes, from shirts to jumpers to pants and coats, even his first Hallowe'en costume. I don't own a serger but the patterns still finish and wear beautifully, just with a close zig zag.My son has now graduated to the toddler book and it's just as well designed. This book is invaluable and you will NEVER find better infant patterns for the money. My copy...

Wonderful Module Patterns
The patterns fit perfect to my grandson. I live in Argentina and I could not get so easy patterns in modules that allow you to create different garments. If you follow the explanations you will not have any problem in sewing because they are very clear.I recommend the book because it is excellent.

A NEW BABY - how wonderful! You will have so much fun sewing for that special baby. All it takes is a good pattern, a little fabric, a little time and love. It is fun to show off a baby with adorable outfits made by you. You can dress your baby any way you choose. It will not always be this way because in just a few years, they will have their own ideas as to what they wish to wear.

You can use a great variety of fabrics, appliqués, laces and other trims. It used to be that all little girls were dressed in pink and the boys in blue. This is no longer so. All types of fabrics and colors are now used for both boy and girl babies. Just remember to choose soft materials as babies have very soft, sensitive skin.

Our goal for writing this book is to provide you with all the patterns you need for the baby's first year with up-to-date and complete instructions for sewing these garments. We have included fabric information, yardage requirements, cutting instructions and the correct stitches to use for the different fabrics.

The book has eight sections. The first section has general sewing information. Section two contains cutting and sewing instructions for baby's nursery items. The last section has thirty-five appliqués which can be used on all the garments and nursery items. The remaining sections have complete cutting and sewing instructions for at least thirty garments plus many variations.

A master pattern is included for at least 30 designs, all in sizes newborn to 18 months. There are many variations of T-shirts, sleepers, kimonos, rompers, jogging suits, sweatshirts, sweaters, pants, shorts, overalls, dresses, panties, bibs and 35 fun appliques. You can create a beautiful nursery to welcome baby home. Instructions are included for bumper pads, comforters, crib sheets, receiving blankets, bath towels with hoods and wall hangings.

This book has easy-to-follow sewing instructions with clear illustrations, time saving techniques and the most up-to-date sewing methods. All styles and creative ideas are shown throughout the book in full colour photographs.

Some of the pattern pieces are interchangeable so you can make many variations of garments, using the same pattern pieces. In the book it also explains how you can make minor changes in the design to obtain different effects.

The multi-sized master pattern is printed on durable white paper with colour coded lines for each size. The patterns are printed on both sides of the paper so we could include as many sizes and designs as possible. Trace the patterns using tracing paper or tracing cloth made of transparent pressed fibers.

All of the master pattern pieces include 1/4? (6 mm) seam allowances. This is the best seam allowance to use when sewing baby clothes. You can use a regular sewing machine or a serger/overlock machine.

Each master pattern includes four sizes: Small to Extra Large. Choose the pattern size by comparing the baby?s height and weight to the measurement chart. Top to learn more

Must-have for (grand- &) parents, whoever sews & loves kids
I bought this book shortly after I had my first child. I couldn't live without this gem in my library these days. I use it to sew for my 2nd child now, and to make gifts for relatives and friends. I also do a lot of charity sewing with the patterns in this book. This book not only has clear, easy, straight-forward patterns for all the classic basics (dresses, Ts, PJs, overalls, pants, sweatshirts, jackets, even hooded Kangaroo-style pullover sweatshirts), but it also has wonderful, clear, concise sewing lessons in the front. Truth be told, I learned more to sew from this book than I ever learned in school, from relatives, or from patterns by other companies with bigger names (Simplicity, etc.) I even learned a lot about appropriate fabric selection from this book. This book gave me inspiration and help every step of the way to create clothes my kids love best and have worn weekly for years. And when I had questions, detailed sewing help was just a phone call away...

great book for amateurs
I have not sewn much since I was a child in 4-H and certainly had forgotten what I needed to know to make clothing and make it look good. I was pleasantly surprised with the wonderful instructions and ease of use. The first pants I made took no time at all and turned out great.

GREAT basic sewing resource. Learn to sew or brush up on your skills. AND with patterns!
I learnt to sew as a child, later my mother died, and I continued to perservere. Much later I came across an earlier edition of this basic, and FINALLY learnt to sew SIMPLY and easily. That was in 1984 I think. If you thought you hated sewing because of a disastrous introduction in home ec, or some nameless pricey paper pattern company sold you an expensive pattern that just didn't work and ruined your fabric (along with a desire to sew!) then help is on the way!Kerstin teaches you a lot of quick techniques used in ready to wear-- flat construction, quick knit techniques and more. I quit swearing at my machine and feeling confused by pattern directions and started sewing again using this book.Don't be put off by the pictures of the garments. They are rarely accessorized well, and look a bit clunky. The paper patterns in the fabric store are similar. Very basic pictures. In reality when you sew them, the fit is MUCH better, more like ready...

The best book for beginners
This book provides simple yet WEARABLE patterns. T shirts, Blouses, pants, skirts.. with a little bit of variation, they can be turned into tunic, half coat, sleep wear and so on.What I liked the best about this book is that it shows lots of photos of finished garment in different fabrics: a blouse can look casual or classy with different fabrrics! It was something hard to imagine before I saw the pictures. The effect is striking.I strongly recommend this book to anyone who wants simple and practical patterns. It is a bargain compared to buying separate patterns.

Wonderful sewing resource!
I have been sewing for a year and only 4 months or so of that has been garment sewing. I have made the the elastic waist pants and I am now in the process of making the tshirt. This book is excellent for beginners and non-beginners alike. It teaches you step by step how to build basic wardrobe pieces and additional design embellishments such as cowl neck tops, boat neck tops, drawstring pants, etc. This one is a must have for anyone wanted to increase or build upon their sewing skills.

Kwik Sew Patterns

In hindsight I think I should have allowed slightly more seam allowance when I cut it out as it is made for a polar fleece type fabric that has a bit of stretch to it and my fabric did not stretch much at all. I also used satin binding on the inside of the armhole as this fabric had very minimal stretch and I didn't think the binding method suggested would work well on my chosen fabric.

It’s from Kokka and I bought it at Sew L. A. That’s about it. I desperately want to get back into sewing, but I find it hard to do. Mostly because I’m tired after a day of work and because I like to hang out with friends and such. The pattern calls for an elastic waist, and the only problem with that for me is I never know which side is the front when I put them on. I’ve since made pairs with waist ties, but I found that it’s pretty annoying to have to untie them and for... In 2009, I took a beginner class at Sew L. A. called “Pajamarama” with this pattern – the first garment I ever completed. I not only took them in, but I exchanged the waist tie for an elastic/waist tie combo. Karen’s sew-along also helped me FINALLY alter the pajamas I made for my sister as a Christmas present…. I hope to blog more, as I miss being part of this great online sewing community.

Kwik Sew recently released their spring/summer pattern line . This is the first Kwik Sew collection since their merger with McCall's and it features many easy to sew items.
