Very nice, gave as a gift
Very nice soda bread dish. Came packed well, gave it as a gift for my mom who loves to make my grandmother's soda bread. She doesn't use it to bake, but instead has it on a stand to display. She really likes it!

Beautiful
This plate is so gorgeous, I almost have a hard time using it. One day, I will even use the recipe for the soda bread. I LOVE the craftsmanship. It is smaller than I was expecting, but still a very beautiful plate.

Yummy Irish soda Bread
I am always a skeptict with on-line food unless I know or know someone who has tasted it before. This was so easy to make and it turned out delicious. My son took the 2 loaves to school for a traditional culture food product and was enjoyed by all. I am glad I had bought more boxes.

Easy to make and yummy
You wouldn't think it could be so easy to make traditional Irish soda bread that tastes so good. All you have to do is add buttermilk, stir and bake. It really is that simple. The best part though is the taste. Garvey's Irish Soda Bread comes out lightly golden brown on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside... and delicious. I like it with just a little butter or strawberry jam. My 3 year old loves it too, which is great since it is organic.

Best I have had
I first tasted soda bread from an authentic Irish restaurant that served carrot soup and Shepard's Pie. I have been on a quest to find that matching flavor, and Garvey's produced it. This soda bread was as good as the home-made stuff, and so much easier. For real soda bread, try Garveys.

Slainte!
Maggie O'Farrell tells you everything (almost) that you need to know about making authentic in the pages of this slim volume. Maggie's recipes for White, Wheat, Whole Meal and Surprise (aka Irish-American with fruit) soda breads are simple to do and as soda bread is quite similar to what we call "biscuits" here in the US, may very well become a favorite. There are a couple of things you should take note of: Maggie calls for bicarbonate of soda or bread soda in most of these recipes. That is baking soda, the stuff in the orange box, not baking powder, the stuff in the round can. She calls for unhomogenized buttermilk, something that will be impossible to find almost anywhere in the US. The trick is to get buttermilk that is made with an active culture. Kate's brand is wonderful if you can find it, but you...

Just In Time For St. Patrick's Day
This is an entertaining and educational book about Irish Soda Bread and it's history. Very informative. I learned some things that I didn't know and I am of Irish descent on both sides of the family. I'll be working on these recipes to get them just right for our St. Patrick's Day feast.

Very interesting
This is not your typical cookbook which just lists a bunch of ingredients and directions and that is it. The author literally takes you by the hand and guides you through the entire process from start the finish. What makes the cookbook even better is that you learn a lot of extra little tips and tricks as well as curious facts about the Irish culture.A very well written guide, if you want to learn how to make Irish bread or just learn a little bit more about the Irish cuisine and culture, this cookbook is a must!

Soda bread is to Ireland as apple pie is to America.

The tradition of baking Irish soda bread in Irish homes lives on and lives strong.

As our soda bread recipes travelled around the world, they became distorted with local variations and ingredients. But my Granny never travelled. So in her every day baking she just did what her mother, grandmother and great grandmother did before her.

In this wee book dedicated to Irish soda bread you will learn all about making real, authentic Irish soda bread, just like my Granny made it.

Take a look at what else is inside:

Chapter 1: The Irish Soda Bread Myth

Chapter 2: So What Is It That Makes Irish Soda Bread Irish?

Chapter 3: Now Let's Talk About The Flour
How using the right flour will improve your bread dramatically

Chapter 4: Irish White Soda Bread Recipe
A great recipe anyone can make

Chapter 5: Simple Authentic Irish Brown Soda Bread Recipe
Everyone should be making Irish brown bread

Chapter 6: Irish Wholemeal Bread Recipe
Whole meal for the whole family

Chapter 7: Serving Suggestions

Chapter 8: PS: Wait Don't Go Just Yet .....

You too can make soda bread my Granny would be proud of.

It is so simple when you know how.

Irish Soda Bread
Comparable to Irish Soda Bread I've made from restaurant scratch recipe. A little caraway seed would make this mix a little more authentic, but that's easy enough to do. Very satisfied with the quick results and good hearty bread mix. Greatly improved by toasting. Would highly recommend it to anyone, even if you're not Irish.

Just one bite and you'll love it!!
I hate raisins!! I've never enjoyed Irish Soda Bread until now! So I was thrilled to try this mix because I was able to give the packet of raisins to my husband! I saw that you have 3 options for the 'liquid' ingredient. On my very first try, I used plain greek yogurt! 40 minutes later I was enjoying wonderful Irish soda bread!! It was so good I'm going to stick with the yogurt! I don't enjoy baking, but this was so easy. Yes, the dough is sticky, but after kneading for 2 min. as directed, I put a nice 'ball' of dough in my cake pan. I made it today, am reviewing it now, and will be ordering more when I'm done with this!! Yum!!

Sticky dough, but worth it!
I had doubts about this bread as I was making it, because the dough was very sticky, making it difficult to knead and form the dough, but the final baked product was so good! Crunchy outside, doughy and not too sweet on the inside with raisins giving it a burst of sweetness here and there. To die for with butter on it!

home made taste
I have been to the country inn that makes this bread, and I must say it is very tasty. I got a large loaf cut it into four quarters, wrapped them seperatly and froze them for later use. but slice them about 1/4 of inch , toast it and a bit of butter, and wonderful for breakfast or a snack. and all NATURAL ingredients, none of that fake stuff additives!!!I also get orders quickly, im not sure what the previous review was all about, maybe they never gave correct name or numberand I know other people who have ordered and feel the same as I do.

BUY Irish Soda Bread

Irish Soda Bread

You can use it as sandwich bread, like James Beard, or cut it thinly and toast it. Optional: 1/2 cup raisins or currants and 1/2 teaspoon caraway seeds. The trick to a good Irish soda bread is the right amount of moisture in the dough&mdash. Like corned beef and cabbage, soda bread is worthy of more than its annual day on the plate. There are plenty of recipes, but my favorite is from James Beard who spent several weeks in Ireland and recreated the famous bread as he experienced it there. not enough and the bread will turn out dry. You should wind up with bread that is smooth, slightly dense, and perfectly salty.

Irish Soda Bread. One last note: the recipe says to eat the bread within a few hours before it turns into an inedible brick. Deal with it. Perhaps the only downside to this recipe is the relatively long baking time (40ish minutes) compared to other quick breads like biscuits and muffins. I think it would make fantastic toast, and I’d love to see someone turn it into the most decadent bread pudding ever. I also disregarded the instructions to let it cool completely, because why eat room temperature bread when you can slather a hot slice with butter and shovel it into your eagerly awaiting mouth.
