This thing rocks!
I was paying almost 50 a month to keep throwing chemicals in my pool. I could not stop the water from turning green from algae. I emptied half the water out of the pool and filled it back up, then added the suggested amount of salt for my 15x48 and waited. I did have to go out every day for about a week or 2 and rinse out the filter in the pump to take out the algae then after it was gone I didn't have to add any other chemicals. I'm going on 6 months and have not had to add salt or chlorine to the pool. I literally let leaves sit in the bottom of the pool for 2 months during the winter and the water stayed Chrystal clear. Great product
Before getting the saltwater system, we were putting $10 or more of chemicals a week in the pool. We had to check it every day to see if we needed to "PH Up" or "PH Down", add chlorine, and consistently had to "shock" the pool. My eyes had a reaction to the chemicals, and the children had to wear goggles to protect their eyes. We have saved more than we spent for the saltwater system, because we haven't had to buy all the chemicals. We LOVE it. Installation was a breeze. We set the system with a timer to run 4 hours a day, and have not had to shock the pool in the month that we've had it. When our children realized they could get into the pool without goggles, they were so excited! We put the required amount of salt (very inexpensive) into the pool and haven't had to add another thing. The water stays so clear that we don't even test it anymore. Great Idea - but are having some chlorine problems.
This sounded like a great idea to us so we went with it. We put up the pool and the Saltwater filter and it seemed to do all right for the first couple of weeks but over the past 3 weeks or so, we have had a low chlorine problem. I don't want to say it's the saltwater system but we ARE wondering if it is "making" the chlorine that it is supposed to. I don't know. Great product
Been using this product for about a month now and could not be happier with it. Hooks up easily and comes with all the instructions and hardware needed to get you started. There's even a phone number on the unit to call if you have questions about how to operate it. I have not needed to call, but it is reassuring to know that help is available.I bought this as an upgrade to a Intex filter pump/salt system that had the pump and chlorine generator built into one unit. All I had to do was remove the salt cell from the Intex pump and attach this unit using a variety of PVC attachments(the Intex fittings are not standard sizes that can easily be mounted to normal PVC fittings) bought at the local hardware and a piece of 2x4 to mount it on. Then, plugged the pump into the AQ-TROL control unit and left it turned on. Now the pump runs only when the control unit allows it. I won't go into detail about how the timer on the Intex unit worked, but I will say that the new system is...

Very nice product. It is easily installed and the controls are very simple. I was very suprised about the weight of the box when it arrived. Once you remove it from the box, you quickly realize that it appears to be very duarable. The controls are mounted in a very sturdy metal box that is made to be placed outside near the pool. The chlorine generator cell is very easily plumbed and the fact that is comes with the correct fittings for piping or connecting hoses gives an owner options. Ours has been installed for six days now and we are very happy. It does take some time getting the correct salt level. It's easier to add than take away. However now that we have the right ppm salt amount, we are adjusting the pump timer and the chlorine output. Final words on this product is that it is a well made chlorine generator system. It is the real deal, not an imitation.

Worth the money
Used this the entire past summer. Works great. This was the easiest season I've had with a pool. Basically, just kept the PH where it should be and the rest was handled by this unit. Had to add some salt throughout the season due to rain dilluting the water, thats it.

Simplifies pool care/creates pleasant water
I normally don't write product reviews but I wanted to help what I suspect was an unfair one by a prior reviewer.We've been using this system for 3 years with a 6000 gallon pool and it has changed the way we look at pool care. The procedure is simple-- add the recommended amount of salt, program the unit, and it takes care of the rest.No more algae, no more adding chemicals, no more burning eyes and dry skin. The pool water is like physiological saline and opening your eyes under water is like bathing them in Visene. Very pleasant. Everybody who uses our salt water pool loves it, particulary people with chlorine sensitivity and dry, sensitive skin as it is therapeutic for the latter.When adding this much salt (160 pounds in our case), don't be discouraged by the unit giving a low salt warning at first. Perfect Pool Water
Not wanting to spend a lot of money on Chlorine products for my above ground pool, I researched salt water systems. I found the Intex model to be the lowest priced and easiest to operate system out there. I have been using it for 3 weeks now, in a 12,400 gallon 24' above ground pool and have detected ZERO algae growth. The water has stayed crystal clear, easy on the eyes and most importantly, no chemicals!!If you are using a chlorine system now but are thinking about switching. Don't hesitate.PS Salt should be available in 50 lb bags from most pool stores for less than $10.00 a bag. Don't get gouged on this item. This is a wonderful invention at a fantastic price! We love it! By the way, it is 7 by 10 feet and 3 feet deep. I was expecting something smaller, but am thrilled that it is bigger and just the right size. We have dreamed of having an indoor heated pool where we can do some serious swimming, but knew we couldn't afford the pools with the current machine or a swimspa. Better than expected
I have to admit that I was a little skeptical of this at first, but it has turned out to be GREAT. We had looked in to all sorts of other lap pool options, and there was really nothing that came close price wise- We'd have to spend $12k more to get pretty much anything. So, We gave it a shot- And I am glad that we did.It was relatively easy to set up, though you DO have to make sure that you have a nice, VERY level spot to set it up on. I had to do a little excavating in my yard to get the area totally flat. It went together easily enough, though the instructions were a bit difficult. We filled it with water, and hopped in!I didn't know how I would like 'resistance swimming' compared to lap swimming. It feels a little different- But it is still a great workout. Once you get used to swimming in place, though, it's not too bad. Great Item for the Price!
Like a previous reviewer, I'd looked at some of the other home lap pool options. The iPool seemed like a good alternative. It arrived quickly and was very easy to set up - although it helps with a second person. I also purchased the heater and now keep the pool at 80 degrees. The pool is kept in our garage ~ the pool blanket (purchased from the company) helps retain the heat and keeps the humidity down.The electrician's bill to wire the heater was more than I'd expected. Great system
I had an original chlorine generator that came with my Ultra Frame Intex pool. It has worked fine for 3 years and still was working when I pulled it to go with an upgraded pump and sand filter system. All other chlorine generators are much pricer and the Intex system has proven itself for me so it was no contest to buy just the Krystal Klear system to treat our pool water.Easy enough setup and a number of improvements compared to my 3 year olf unit. I have had the Intex 56673EG 14-inch sand filter pump for a month now and I am completely satisfied. Very Easy, No More Catridges
I bought this to replace the catridge filter because it only took a day or two for the catridge to get dirty enough that it wouldn't run my skimmer very well. I was taking it out everyday and rinsing it out, and putting a new one in every week. All this takes is 50 lbs of filter sand($10) and the power is more than enough for any pool 20' or less. I've been using it for about a week and the power is still there. I love this filter over the catridge filters these come with. Well worth the money spent.UPDATE: I have used it for 2 months and still love it. And a helpful tip, if the pressure goes down on the gauge it is probably something blocking the water flow. Mine did and there was trash in the little grid piece that goes through the pool wall. Took me awhile to realize that it could stop up in there. Anyway, 1000% better than the catridge filters. very easy
This filter is way overkill for my 16x48 ultra-frame, but I got off cartridges for two reasons. #1. They would clog up & my sanitizer wouldn't work as a result & #2. I got tired of buying/replacing cartridges. There are nearly 30 pieces to this filter, seems intimidating reading the setup instructions but it actually only took me about 10 minutes to figure everything out on my own. Top to learn more

I looked into Bacquacil (a non-chlorine sanitizing system, that is not as tricky to test and manage as a chlorine system) and was told by one pool dealer that it might clog up cartridge filters in small pools, but the website for Bacquacil says... Once the pool was filled with water, I was surprised by how much more solid it seemed than our previous Easy set and simple set pools had been. We live in the northeast of the US, so pools are useful at most from approximately Memorial Day to shortly after Labor Day, and we think that inexpensive above ground pools are economical. I found out how to take care of the water here [. ]. I then use this calculator to add bleach and raise my PH [. ] It’s worked like a charm, I actually keep the chlorine pretty low and the water is crystal clear with no algae. It’s like there’s some kind of dynamic balance between the metal frame and the heavy vinyl pool wall and all the water. The exterior white pipes are a sturdy metal that interlock with each other and slip through a very strong vinyl casing around the top of the heavy vinyl blue pool itself. I fixed it by taking a small amount of bathroom caulk and putting on the inside of the pool, this stopped the leak so I could work on the outside. As many people have stressed on other pool reviews, YOU MUST MUST have a level site and this can take lots of work, so don’t expect to just open it and start assembling. Since we already had a level spot from previous pools, it took only an hour or so, for my children to assemble it themselves, with their 14 yr. old brother. This kind of pool can not be winterized and left up in climates where the winter temperatures drop below freezing, so keep that in mind. One thing that did make me frown a bit was the pinhole leak that I discovered after filling the pool. 97, that test for for at least five things, are a good investment, even for small pools. Small pools are economical but the chemical maintenance is more challenging than it might seem. I have been reusing the same filter that came with pool by spraying it off with the hose.
