The Iguanas Are Back!
The Iguanas, one of the U.S.A.'s grossly ignored musicals treasures, are back with another winner. This band is truly my favorite roots/jazzy/whatever rock band of all-time. They have lost a member, saxophonist Derek Huston, since their last CD, but multi-instrumentalist/co-lead vocalist Joe Cabral often overdubs tenor and baritone saxes to make up for that. Hurricane Katrina hit this New Orleans unit hard and they've weathered the storm with this collection of songs about loss and recovery. There are also some party-time tunes, too. This band has often been compared to Los Lobos (they have often opened up for them and are friends). I've never understood why LL gets all the press, fame, etc. while this band goes unnoticed because in my mind they blow LL out of the water. Enjoy this instant classic today!

Bueno,Bueno!!
I have been an iguanas fan since 1993. I have all of their albums, and I believe this might be their best album yet!I was very excited see that the new record was coming out. Although,as said in the reviews, this is a departure from previous albums, but certainly not a radical departure. It still has that signiture tex-mex sound. This is an absolutly delightful listen from start to finish.I highly reccomend this album.

Summer time party fun
The Iguanas' "Plastic Silver and 9 Volt Heart" (Yep Roc) is one groove-y record, laidback, loping and made for a margarita in the summer shade or a cruise with the top down. There's nothing showy to the 13 cuts here, just a remarkably varied collection of easygoing music with healthy helping of Tex Mex stew. If you only own their debut album with the rollicking "Night of Sin," this is a time to take another listen to the boys from New Orleans. The band recorded the disc live in the studio over eight days and it shows how they've progressed over the past decade. They take the timeworn basics of down home R&B, swamp rock and Tex Mex and mix and match, creating something new that fits as comfortably as a well-worn pair of jeans. This is confidently cool music, from the first blast of "Yesterday," a pop tune born of the marriage of Morphine and The Lovin' Spoonful, through the snaking twin sax blasts of "Zacatecas" on to the shuffling ballad that is "The First Kiss Is Free" and into...

Low Voltage High Wattage
Buy this album. NOW! ??? Because, if you don't but it now, you will be kicking yourself later because it went of print so quickly or became instantly unavailable, unless nefarious means of obtention are your specialty. Try getting their album "Superball" now....There are 3 great kick start songs offering immediate listening pleasure. The balance all slip-slide into your daily routine ("...just like "Mexican Candy"..)through the bottom heavy groove that weaves its way thoughtout a finely produced album. No tinkley sounds here; these guys brood with the best of them.

Grew into a favorite
We purchased this at an Iguanas concert many years ago, and while we liked it a lot at first, it has grown and grown on us, to the point that it stays in the car player and cycles over and over. It's fun, catchy and at times poignant. The bass player -- Rene Coman, I believe -- is superb, and the dual saxes make for a wonderfully distinct sound. I love the heavy use of accordian on this CD and was disappointed to read that they moved away from it in the new album.

The best thing they recorded
This CD is great and is by far the best that the Iguanas have ever done. For some reason they didn't stick with this sound. I agree with the above review that this one never grows old. If you liked this, try "Pepe and the Bottle Blondes." They are less of a rock group than the Iguanas and have more of a big band sound, but they do some of the same songs and are a lot of fun.

A pure pleasure to listen to
"Nuevo Boogaloo" by The Iguanas is a truly wonderful CD that has a very mellow groove throughout. Unfortunately, it seems like there are not a lot of people who know about this band or this CD. Both are worth checking out. The Iguanas have a very rootsy, traditional sound. Kind of like a Spanish version of Donna the Buffalo, without the female vocals. Highly, highly recommended.

Read This Book Before You Buy An Iguana!
This book is an excellent resource for both novice and so-called expert Iguana owners. It would be especially useful for any prospective Iguana owner. Iguanas grow to be very big lizards in a relatively short period of time. They can be agressive, and territorial. There are many husbandry requirements thatthe local pet store will never tell you. In fact, if you follow most pet stores advice, you will end up with a dead Iguana. This book should help prevent this from happening. The first chapter is regarding whether the Iguana is the right pet for you. It should be read before deciding on an Iguana as a pet. remember, these are not domesticated animals. There are also excellent chapters on housing, feeding, and socialization of Iguanas. Finally the book disproves much misinformation provided by older books, and disseminated by pet stores. For instance, many pet stores sugest feeding cat food to juvenile Iguanas. What they don't tell you is that while this results in a...

Quality & Value
Living in the Florida Keys we have dealt extensively with discarded Iguanas - perhaps 15 or more. People buy them, and get rid of them constantly - and down here, in the semi-tropics, they can survive (with difficulty)in the wild. With all the iguana problems we have encountered good information is a necessity, & we have purchased many iguana books including Hatfield's "Green Iguana, the Ultimate Owners Guide" (a great book, but we still prefer Kaplan's "Iguanas for Dummies"). If you still want addtional technical data you can add "What's Wrong with My Iguana" by John Rossi M.A., D.V.M. and "Understanding Reptile Parasites" by Roger Klingenberg D.V.M. Kaplan's book is based on research & a lot of personal experience. It is thorough, and her experience shows through - there are tidbits of information that have been useful to us that we have not found elsewhere. She has long maintained a caring website to help iguana...

Product Description

Big, green, scaly, and surprisingly cuddly, a well-adjusted iguana is like a cross between large, friendly dog and an independent cat. On the other hand, a poorly trained iguana can be a living nightmare. With his muscular, three-to-four-foot-long tail and 116-120 razor-sharp teeth, a nasty iguana can be a genuine danger to life, limb and property.  Iguanas require a constant 90-degree Fahrenheit environment and lots of room to range around in.

Iguanas For Dummies lets you take a long, well-informed look before leaping into the exotic world of iguanas. Written by one of the most respected experts on the care and feeding of iguanas, this fun, entertaining book fills you in on everything you need to know to successfully adopt, nurture, live with and love an iguana. You’ll discover how to:

  • Decide if an iguana is right for you
  • Feed and house your iguana properly
  • Keep your iguana healthy
  • Bond with your scaly friend
  • Integrate your green amigo into your life
  • Socialize and train your mini-dinosaur

Ideal for first-time and veteran iguana owners alike, Iguanas For Dummies is a gold mine of advice, guidance and tested-in-the-trenches tips on:

  • Iguanas 101: history, anatomy, physiology and different species
  • What you should know and what to look for when shopping for an iguana
  • Housing your iguana—includes tips on buying or building an enclosure and how to create a safe environment for a free-roaming iguana
  • How to feed your iguana and how often
  • Health issues, concerns and treatments
  • Breeding iguanas for fun and profit

Whether you’re thinking about getting an iguana, or you already have a whole herd of big green herbivores, this fun, friendly guide will answer all your questions. Top to learn more

Great Iguana Owner Resource
Like most "Dummies" books, this resource guide offers pretty much everything you need to know about its subject. (Iguanas in this case.) It covers iguana history, habits (both in nature and captivity), common illnesses, requirements for housing and feeding, and even a section on tameing and training. Melissa Kaplan has definitely done her homework, and continues to do so with her online research web site, anapsid.org.The only complaint I have in this book, is that aside from the "About the Author" section at the beginning, there really isn't any indication Kaplan actually raises iguanas. The book lists many options when it comes to enclosures and feeding, but it would be nice if the author specified what exactly she does for her own pets, or provide specific examples of what has happened (good or bad) in the raising of her reptiles. Other than that minor complaint, I enjoyed reading this book and have already used it numerous times as a resource for...

you wanna The Iguanas?
The Iguanas is a musical cocktail of Tex-Mex, Zydeco, Salsa and '50s Be-Bop. One of the earlier concoctions by Exec. Producer Jimmy Buffett and Margueritaville Music. Some songs have both English and Spanish lyrics in the liner notes. Enjoyable to listen to AND dance to! Vocals, Sax, Guitars, Accordian, Drums, Percussion, Congas and Bongos.

Fun fun fun!
The Iguanas are a better band now than they were when they made this, their first album. However, they have seldom been more fun, at least on a studio record. The songs are a tasty mix of Tex-Mex and New Orleans second line (Texas chili and jambalaya, as it were) with nary a dud. Buy it, play it, love it, and then try to go see these guys live, as they bring this kind of energy to every show.

Product Description

The Iguanas -- as in Iggy, get it? -- were part of that pre-Beatle grease-combo thing that pressed on during the British Invasion, and the kind of racket that infested their bandstand set list is here to savor on this Norton compilation. Culling all three sides from their lone studio session ("Mona," "I Don't Know Why" and the originally unreleased "Again and Again," Iggy's first attempt at songwriting) with a demo session from 1964 and an acetate of the original sax-guitar-drums trio from 1963, this is one potent blast of a prototypical shake-'em-on-down unit in full cry. Sometimes downright astonishing in its crudity ("Johnny B. Goode" is the very first track you should cue up, trust me on this), this generous 18-tracker replicates a good night in a VFW Hall way better than most '60s frat band compilations do. For those who wish to be transported back to that time period, the color cover shot is unbelievable, and yes, Iggy sings "Louie Louie" on this, too. ~ Cub Koda, All Music Guide Top to learn more

If the pats secure the ball, then the pats win, but if they fumble or let the ball get striped than the giants win. The giants are a dirty team, I can’t think of any othe team as dirty as the giants.

Bonnie Edwards, liaison on the iguana survey, said the project also involved finding out how many green iguanas were on the Island and she urged anyone who spots a green iguana to call the “iguana hotline” on 917-7744. A survey of iguanas, funded by the Department of Environment, the National Trust and the Reptile Conservation Foundation, is under way on Cayman Brac with volunteers tracking and tagging rock iguanas. We love all iguanas, but the green ones don’t belong here and they are a threat to the native rock iguana,” she said. Residents of Cayman Brac and Little Cayman are reporting sightings of green iguanas in the Islands, Norma Connolly reports in compasscayman. Paul Watler of the Cayman Islands National Trust advised residents or visitors to the Brac or Little Cayman to immediately report sightings of green iguanas. “Green iguanas have potential to be invasive in the Brac and Little Cayman just as they are in Grand Cayman, so we take these reports very seriously. He said it was likely some green may have “hitched rides” in shipping containers and that in the past people had brought green iguanas on the Islands as pets.

Bryan's Records and Pet Center at 2003 Main St. is an eclectic collection of pets, pet supplies, albums, cassettes and CDs. Richard Bryan was operating a radio repair business downtown when he decided to buy Dot's Records in 1945, across the street from The Princess Theater on Fifth Street South in Columbus. We got out of the radio repair business," Wayne said. "He got a lot of tickets for parking," Wayne said, from running between the two businesses. Wayne and Betty Bryan are closing the family business. Richard told Wayne's mother, Clara, that he bought the store for her to run. One day, a fellow brought a record into the store and asked the Bryans to help sell copies. "We knew when there was a good cotton year right off," Wayne said. "People get excited at the thought of feeding meat to a fish," Betty said. Eventually, Richard consolidated the businesses. "It didn't sell," he said of the 78 rpm record by the man who came to be known as The King of Rock and Roll.

With the help of a hotline number, researchers take location information of the iguanas and capture them to record pertinent information such as length, weight and gender. A special subspecies of the Cuban rock iguana found only on the Brac and Little Cayman has been the subject of a census to determine their numbers. Continued monitoring will also determine the mating and births of these recorded iguanas, which will also be added to the growing data collected. The rock iguana faces many of the same perils as its Blue cousin on Grand Cayman.
