Almost perfect...
My son received this toy for Christmas, and we gave one to our niece. The verdict is that it is almost, but not quite, perfect.The toy is a set of interlocking squares of various colors that are perforated to hold a four-pronged hub that can support one of four sizes of gears. Everything is made of a durable plastic that has some flex to it. You can create systems of gears that spin around and even construct things like gearboxes. (The cover of the box--shown above--will give you a simple idea of what can be done.) There is a manual aimed at parents that helps them teach their child how gears work, too--a nice touch.The quality of the toy is high: the colorful stickers for the gears are plastic coated, the injection-molded pieces are free from excess plastic, and the pieces fit together solidly. Great fun for young kids and parents
This is a great toy for both kids and parents. My 4 year old daughter loves it and we've enjoyed watching her get more skilled and creative at assembling the gears. I wouldn't recommend this for kids much under 3 1/2, although our 18 month old loves watching it spin and playing with some of the individual pieces (we took out the few really small ones). It's really durable and fun for parents too.

Kaleido Gears Review
Originally purchased for our 5 year-old granddaughter, this toy is a little above her developmental stage, and apparently above her grandparents as well! She and we became frustrated in trying to fit the white gear connectors to the gear pieces, and then attaching the coupled piece onto the frame. Our 8 and 11 year-old granddaughters, however, love it and fight over playing with it!

Fascinating watch parts
Very happy with the purchase of tiny watch parts. I got these for steampunk crafting and couldn't be happier with them. Packaging is professional and parts are clean. These are pocket watch parts, so keep in mind that they are very small. The largest gear was maybe 20mm in diameter.

Tiny tiny parts, exactly as described.
This is a collection of miscellaneous watch parts, not clock parts. They are all extremely small with the largest pieces likely no bigger than a dime. This works well for adding tiny intricate details to a steam punk costume but keep in mind their small size and don't expect any large gears.

Loads of tiny tiny parts
My mind reeled when I dumped this little bag of awesome out. Loads of possibilities but I have no idea where to start, these things are so small. I expected them to be small but I don't thing I truly comprehended the bittiness of them. Lots of cool variety, don't expect to get a lot of hands. The weight was a true .5oz when in bag. The picture would have you believe these are all shiny and clean, They will be a bit less so in reality, not to say they're filthy, they just have a bit of age to them. There were a few bits of junk metal in mine but all in all I'm pleased. For the price a good product!

This toy has it all!
I have to admit it -- this toy makes me want to shout "Wow! Neat! Awesome!" And if I were younger, I would definitely add "Cool!" I mean, this toy has everything. Oh, and my son loves it, too! He's not quite three years old, but he enjoys putting the base together, then placing each colorful gear on the pegs, and then -- Fun! -- turning and churning them with the handle. Together we've made some elaborate structures, and he looks so serious and industrious as he carefully snaps on a gear for each peg. Also, this toy is so open-ended and lets creativity soar! After going to the county fair, my son talked endlessly about the "scary rides," and this toy helps to fuel his imagination when we create all manner of exotic spinning rides. Superb! A sure winner
I look for toys that are fairly quiet, easy to play with and fun. I want a toy that will inspire creativity and exploration of the world. I look for toys that are sturdy and will last a long time. I look for toys that will grow with my child. This toy fits into all of these expectations and more. My almost three year old son has really enjoyed these gears. He plays with them a lot. We have conversations about how they turn and how they work together. He is able to build a flower on his own and a bridge. I would point out though that he plays with these gears much better when an adult is playing with him. However, these are so fun, it's not a hardship to sit down and play. We bought one of the activity books and that has helped expand our building activities and our imaginations, as we use the ideas from one activity and apply it to our own personal building. The "Coolest Toy in the World"
My 4-years old boy/girl twins were enthralled when this box was opened. We bought one of the activity booklets to give us ideas and it was a perfect way to start. We discussed the "name" of each different piece in the set and pondered what role each had. Each child chose an activity from the booklet and were quite successful (with help, of course). They were able to discuss why all the gears turned, and discerned why an "alone" gear did not turn (I was trying to fake them out). This is an excellent educational toy and my children did not want to put it away! We can't wait to buy a larger set and another activity book! You cannot go wrong with this toy! As my son said, "This is the coolest toy in the world!"

Really Fun (For More Than One)
We purchased this award-winning set for our preschool-aged son who really enjoys toys like Marble Run, Legos, and Brio. We thought it a good fit for his mechanical engineering interests. The set itself is fairly durable and small hands can easily manipulate the chunky pieces which fit together snugly. The handled storage container is an added convenience. However, soon after purchase I noticed (like other reviewers) that my son was not motivated to play with this set on his own. Often, it would go undisturbed for months. One day, his preschool teacher said they were interested in purchasing this set for the classroom. Because of my own experience I cautioned her on the purchase and offered our set to the class for a "test drive." To my surprise, for the week it was on loan it was the most played with toy in the room. My son seemed to love the kit at school, but not at home. Kids feel like they've made a real "machine"
This set of "gears" is really neat. There are lots of pieces, very nice bright colors, and countless configurations. I really like that the set didn't include patterns to follow or directions--it just told you how to make flat gears, upright, etc. My oldest child is 3--his main fascination right now is how everything moves together. He yells at me to come see the "machine" he has made. I think it will stay interesting to him for several years.

Start with the Under Sea Adventure set, this as add on!
We received several gears, gears, gears sets at the same time, and found that the plain set ie Super set although initially fun looses excitement without some add ons. If I were to buy just one set I would start with the Under the Sea adventure set first, then add with the fantasy play park. The Undersea set has parts that move the gears in interesting ways from the standard set. It also comes with regular gears for building, although in limited number so the super set still helps extend the play.The motorized monstors sounded more intteresting than it was, but the parts when added to the Undersea adventure set was great fun! The gears are an interesting way of learning how things work. If your child is mechanically minded any of these sets will provide a wonderful new constructin opportunity. Nice finish, and they look good
These are mostly the size of a quarter, some as small as a nickel. They have a nice antiqued finish on one side,the other side is finely textured. Like all of the faux effect things in this line, these are well made and work well for scrapbooking and altered art. They look nicer than the real thing because they were designed with art in mind and newly manufactured.They aren't flimsy and hold up just fine in most jewelry applications without bending or breaking.

If you don't have the time, here's a good source
I got these before I began tearing apart clocks for gears. I have to say that if you don't have the time or tools to take on a clock dissection, this is a good alternative.Pros:- smooth gears make for easy attachment to whatever your project is.- decent metal construction. These aren't brass gears, but they do look ok.- decent assortment for your projects.Cons:- they are a bit contrived- real clockwork gears are nicer in my own opinion.- no real size variance.- not brass means they don't age or have any decent patina.I wouldn't buy again, but that is because I now 'make' my own by tearing down old clocks. For many, this is a good alternative.

A definite must have!!!!!!!
My son received this toy for his first birthday! I will be purchasing it as gifts for all my friends!! He LOVES pushing the button and listening the the music. I was wondering if he would be able to figure out the gears, but he has caught on very quickly and loves to take the gears off and put them back on. He also enjoys stacking the gears up and watching them go around! I like that it has a handle so he can carry it around with him. It keeps him involved for up to 20 minutes at a time!It is very durable as he carries it around, has chewed on the gears (which are made of strong plastic and cannot be marred by chewing on them).My three year old also likes to play with it! Her play is a little sofisticated with it as she tries to figure out which gears have to be put where (as in, do they have to be next to the middle spinning one) placed to make them spin and how many can be stacked and they still turn.My one wish is that Playskool would...

less interactive than I hoped
I was hoping that this toy would be a little more hands on and allow the child to move the gears himself to figure out how they cause each other to turn. It is a bit more lights, sounds, and electronic movement than I hoped, and doesn't leave much room for creativity. I was hoping that it could offer multiple ways to place the gears, but gear placement is limited. My 2 year old does enjoy it for a few minutes, but usually moves on from it once he's removed and put the gears back on a few times. Although the gears can also be stacked, they are a bit unstable in the stacked position.

My daughter's favorite toy!
My daughter Hannah received this as a gift for her first birthday. She loves the music and presses the button to just listen to it play. We didn't think she'd figure out the gears, but she absolutely loves it! she takes the gears off and puts them back on! She totes them around the house in her little basket, and then brings them back to put on the toy. She'll sit in front of this toy for 20 minutes at a time, walk away and then come back to play some more.My only issue is that the gears are starting to get lost around our house. Hasbro should provide a few extra gears for when the first few get lost. Overall a terrific toy!!
