The game could have been released in its earliest stages ...
... and sold to be a smash hit! The unexpected prequal, Super Smash Bros., for Nintendo 64 had very little excitement drawn to its release. I, myself, admit saying "That game looks stupid!" when I first saw it. In fact, I only purchased it because I was a Pokémon-freak at the time. But after getting the hang of it, SSB proves that fighters don't have to have 20 button combination moves and fatalities to be fun!SSB is a very unique fighting game. Every character has three special moves, two throws, and a bunch of physical attacks, and they are performed all the same way. The moves are, of course, different and it takes strategy to use them effectively. And, instead of having life, you have damage. The more you get hit, the higher your damage percent goes up. The higher it is, the farther away you fly when you get hit. To die, you have to fall off the stage, which floats in the middle of no where. The true shine of SSB is its multiplayer action. It's perfect for...

Forget the orginal!
I thought that there was no game out there better than Super Smash Bros, but then I played THIS game at the at one of cube clubs, and all I can say is WOW! The graphics were incredible, the game play was intense, there's a ton of new things to do, and once you've played it, you'll want to throw Smash Bros. for 64 in the garbage. The Items are really cool to! For example, if you throw a Poke-ball, a 3D pokemon comes out moves around and attacks. (and it's not like 64 where it's a flat pokemon that just changes position) Their facial expression changes, they move around, and let your opponent have it! And If you think that the laser gun was a cheap item, wait until you see the laser machine gun in action! Your opponent won't have a chance! Nintendo Did an excellent job on this game. The characters all have individual fingers and you can even see the ruffles in Mario's overalls! It's amazing! You will be spellbound by this game so I encourage you to buy it if you haven't already!!!!

Gamecube at its Multiplayer BEST!!!!
I bought this game at its release time and played it constantly since. I read the data of Super Smash Bros. and it said I played close to 100 hours total!!!!... and I'm still not tired of this game! The massive amount of lands (around 30) with their own obstacles and real-life simulation from other Nintendo games (some levels morph, melt away, constantly moving,... just amazing!!). The characters are real and have their own special moves and abilities.-Dr. Mario*-Mario-Luigi*-Donkey Kong-Bowser-Peach-Mewtwo*-Mr Game and Watch*-Link-Young Link*-Ice Climbers (Nana and Popo)-Zelda-Marth*(from Fire Emblem, a Japanese game never released in the U.S.)-Roy*(from Fire Emblem, a Japanese game never released in the U.S.)-Jiggilypuff*-Pikachu-Pichu*-Captain Falcon-Falco Lambardo*-Fox-Kirby-Samas Aran-Ganondorf*-Ness-Yoshi* = Hidden Characters...

Super Smash Brothers Melee is a great fighting game where you put your favorite Nintendo characters against each other, to find out who's the toughest of them all! Top to learn more

Normally, Nintendo contract players such as Mario, Pikachu, Link, Donkey Kong, Bowser, and Kirby are generally happy and well-mannered, but in Super Smash Bros. Melee, the pleasantries get thrown out and the gloves (except for Mario's) come off. This update of the N64 favorite features these and other video game icons in furious, yet utterly absurd fisticuffs that usually make for a smashing good time. Just make sure you have at least one human opponent to pound on.

Starting off with 14 characters (an additional 11 are waiting to be unlocked), the game has a pretty standard premise--let Nintendo's stars beat on each other until the timer runs out. However, a lot of emphasis is put on knocking opponents off ledges while avoiding the same fate. In typical Nintendo manner, there are quite a few power-ups to assist you in the melee. The actual combat isn't as intricate as in other fighting games; however, the ultra-cartoony layout of the many, many arenas sometimes adds a strategic element not usually found in similar titles.

Super Smash Bros. Melee's strength lays in the mayhem created in four-player fights. The camera does an excellent job of positioning itself so all combatants are constantly visible. Also, Melee sports some of the best visuals seen in a Nintendo product. All the characters are highly detailed, and the movements of each are smoothly infused with personality. Donkey Kong lumbers and Princess Peach fights with grace.

As the multiplayer mode is the key reason for this game's existence, the single-player mode is decidedly weak. The game features an adventure mode that plays somewhat like an old-school, side-scrolling Mario game. Sadly, despite its good looks, its gameplay is rather uninspired. This game is clearly at its best when there are two or more players with controllers in their hands. --Mark Brooks

Pros:

  • Fantastic graphics and sound keep the action upbeat
  • Many new characters and other goodies to unlock
Cons:
  • Single-player experience is comparatively weak
  • Too cute for a few folks
  • Adventure mode is boring

Great fun for the whole family...and probably the kids too!
My brother received a Gamecube (it came with this game only) for Christmas. He's in his thirties. I'm almost in my thirties. And I'm the youngest. There were six adults at our family get-together this past Christmas. There were no children. But all of us got the biggest kick out of this game. I don't even usually like racing games, and I loved it! I almost never play console games (only computer games), and I couldn't get enough of it. This game is easy enough that anyone can enjoy it and still presents enough difficulties not to make it boring. That is a balance which very few games ever achieve. If you own a Gamecube, this is definitely for you. If you don't own a Gamecube, this game could potentially make you want to purchase one.

A great new addition to this excellent series
The people at Nintendo have really outdone themselves this time. I have always been a big fan of the Mario Kart series, and each release has been better than the last. This is no exception. Mario Kart Double Dash includes all of the classic elements that made the Super NES and N64 versions so much fun--wacky cast of characters, cool weapons, intense battle mode, very enjoyable Grand Prix mode--and yet manages to improve in almost every aspect of the game. The new Karts, which hold two people, are a great new feature. Not only does this allow two players to team up together, it also allows four people to play in Grand Prix mode, something that was not available on the N64. In addition, each character has a unique weapon, which adds variety to the game. With many characters to choose from, and a large assortment of unlockable karts, levels, and characters, Mario Kart Double Dash also has a greater potential for extended game play than any of its predecessors. The graphics...

WARNING: Addiction is bad!
I agree with the kid that said this was "Hands down the best racing game ever!". It's more than a racing game, it's an all out road war. If the other racers don't get you the obstacles on each track will. Mushroom Kingdoms favorite foes like Goomba's, Piranha Plant's, Pokey's and many more are waiting around every turn. There are a number of weapons that you can put to use againist your opponents.. like turtle shells, bombs, banana peels, large spiked King Koopa shells, fire, explosive boxes and more. There are also mushrooms that give you that extra boost of speed that can sometimes help you win the race at the last minute. Not to mention the famous speed boosters that are on each track. The tracks are great, they're "Super Mario Sunshine" themed. I recommend that game highly as well. There are some tracks that are not "Sunshine" themed however. I recall one track that traffics regular and not-so regular vehicles, these cars and trucks will slow you down if you don't stay clear of...

Gun is the story of a man's quest for revenge. When life robs Colton White of all that matters, the only thing left he can trust is his gun. Follow along with him as he exacts justice on those who have wronged him. Seek retribution as you face corrupt lawmen, warring tribes, cold-blooded outlaws, and ruthless renegades. Grand Theft Horse
Gun has so much going for it, but it's such a short game that as soon are you build up your stats and really get going...there's no more of it to play. Which is quite annoying. You play as Colton White (Thomas Jane) in a free-roaming western landscape. You can grab whatever horse you want, kill who you feel and take-on a fair amount of side-missions if you feel like taking a break from the main story, which is itself interesting but way too short. The villains are all evil bastards but brilliantly acted by the likes of Brad Dourif, Ron Pearlman and Lance Henriksen. Other actors with cool voices like Kris Kristofferson and Tom Skerritt fill out supporting roles and the dialogue and cut-scenes are all pretty good and avoid the unnatural, forced feel that many video games have. Many of the characters and situations could have been fleshed out more but they merely conveniently contribute to the slight 'search for a hidden goldmine' plot. The action...

Not enough meat on these bones
I am a huge fan of the Western. So you can imagine how excited I was when I heard that Gun developers Neversoft had hired a Hollywood scriptwriter to create the plot for the game and had also brought on A-list voice talent (Kris Kristofferson, etc.) to add atmosphere. This was going to be Unforgiven meets Lonesome Dove meets John Wayne, it was gonna be great! Unfortunately, after breezing through this game in a couple of days, I'm left scratching my head. Don't get me wrong, it's a fun game. The plot moves along briskly, even if it is a tad over the top (the main villain travels in a locomotive with a skull on the front :)). The voice acting is as good as promised. And the action comes fast and heavy. It's in these action scenes that Gun especially shines. Every type of mission that you would ever want to try is there: stealth, huge Call of Duty style squad assaults, fixed turrent gunning, and probably anything else you can imagine. Targeting is forgiving,...

GUN is number one.
I just rented this game. Went through a couple of levels and I like it. Its like a western Grand Theft auto (except not as much criminal element and you ride horses). You do the main missions to continue through the game. Lots of side missions such as bounties, pony express runs, and other odd jobs around the western towns. Nice variety of old guns for shooting and a variety of other weapons such as axes for close (and no gun) combat. If you get a chance to play it, do.

Hedge Hog Mania
Nostalgic video games are really making a comeback right now, not just on the computer, for video game systems, and portable lookalikes of controllers from classic video game systems. Nevertheless, with so many classic from Nintendo, Atari, Sega, and others to add on. For Sega to add on this nostalgia, they put their classic mascot that really franchised a dynamic level for Sega, Sonic The Hedgehog. Arguably, the blue character has been in some magnificent video games predicaments and mazes. Arguably, he was a true giant during the Genesis days. Sadly, Sega was never able to rebound in the video game wars after the Genesis. Still, the Sonic days still come and go. The Sonic Mega Collection, is a collection of seven great Sonic games from the Genesis days: Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic Spinball, Sonic 3D Blast, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, and Sonic & Knuckles, as well as 5 hidden games to add on. The games from those 2D days were just completely outrageous and...

Finally! A good Sega compilation!
If you're like me, you're probably wary of Sonic Mega Collection based on Sega's horrible track record with their "Smash Packs" and other horrible Windows ports. The vast majority of Sega's ports come nowhere near the quality of the original. Well, thankfully that's not the case here. All 7 appear to be flawlessly emulated. The sound, control, and graphics all look identical to the originals. Actually the graphics look better since I've got my Gamecube hooked up through S-Video, and the picture looks a bit sharper, brighter, and cleaner than on the Genesis back in the day.My only two complaints are pretty minor. First, the Gamecube control pad isn't the greatest for games that need digital directional control. The d-pad is small and kind of positioned strangely. It works fine, and actually the analog stick feels okay for these games too, but for these games it will never feel quite as good as a controller with a more "normal" d-pad. Secondly, this is theoretically a...

Too Good to be True
Wow, after getting this game when it came out and playing it for two weeks, I am still amazed by it. Nintendo has once again delivered a huge hit that will be enjoyed by fans for a long time. Let's get to the basics.Story- What's this? The princess being saved ISN'T the main part of the story? Well, she does get kidnapped a few times(I guess it was unavoidable...) but the game offers a fresh plot. Mario tries to have a relaxing vacation, but before he even arrives, Shadow Mario, his archenemy, as been wreaking havoc on Isle Delfino, where Mario plans to relax. Unfortunately, the town artist's drawing of Shadow Mario is in black and white, so all the people think Mario is guilty. His punishment is to clean up the town, and with that, his good name.Graphics- While not the best on the GameCube, these are very nice graphics that remind me of the days of Super Mario 64 on the N64. There are some nice touches, too, that add to the gameplay, such as enemies exploding or...

Super Mario Sunshine
This new title for Mario will be his first for the Nintendo Gamecube. If you think this game will be the typical rescue the princess from Bowser story, that's where you'll be wrong. It starts when Princess Peach, Mario, and quite a number of toads arrive on an Airplane to a peaceful tropical island full of strange people which inhabit the lands many shops and hotels attracting tourists young and old. Just when Mario was about to relax he was disturbed by the folks of the land accusing him of polluting the island, and writing Graffiti scribblings all over the towns walls. Mario of course is innocent but it appears that the actual perpetrator of this crime was dressed in a Mario suit. Whoever it was his intents are clear to comit crimes dressed as Mario so that Mario would be captured and thrown in jail allowing the true criminal to do as he pleases. Mario though won't allow this so he made a deal with the people of the land to clean up the mess and discover the identity of the man...

Super Mario Sunshine takes Mario and Peach to beautiful Sunshine Island, for a much-needed vacation -- until a graffiti artist dressed like Mario goes around vandalizing the place! Top to learn more

Six years. Six long years we’ve had to wait for a new Mario game, and finally it’s here. And even considering the ridiculously unfair expectations, Super Mario Sunshine is almost entirely as good as you’d hope and expect.

The premise of the game is that Mario’s tropical holiday is ruined when he’s stitched up by an evil look-alike for daubing graffiti all over the island. Rather conveniently, there’s a water pump waiting for him to use, which not only washes away the mess but also doubles as a handy jet pack. The jet pack aspect means that whenever you fall off something you have the chance to immediately recover. This built-in safety net means the game can afford to be far more ambitious in its level design than ever before, with massive levels filled with trampolines, tightropes, water-powered windmills, huge coral reefs, and mountains and mountains of platforms.

The whole thing looks amazing, too, with the most realistic water ever seen in a video game, and a near-infinite draw distance. On top of all this are rideable, fruit-juice-spewing Yoshis, extra water nozzles, super-hardcore platform levels where Shadow Mario nicks your jet pack, and goop-generating bosses who seem to live to make Princess Peach’s laundry a nightmare.

After the sweet but rather short pleasures of Luigi’s Mansion and Pikmin, you need have no fear that Mario Sunshine is of a similarly brief nature. There are a total of 120 shines to collect--the same number of stars as in Super Mario 64--and the game world is at least as large and far more interactive. This is without question the best game on the GameCube yet. That may be no more than you'd expect from a Mario game, but it's certainly more than most of us mere mortals deserve. --David Jenkins Top to learn more

What an Amazing Game!
Future Buyers, I recieved this game for my birthday on September 15, 2002. Let me tell you this is one of the best Mario Games I have ever had the pleasure of playing. Nice job nintendo. The game begins in an airplane. Mario and Peach are flying to the beautiful Isle Delfino for a much needed vacation. Unfortunately, things aren't so beautiful. A shady character has been vandalizing the Island and he looks similar to Mario. Mario is blamed for the mess and is forced to make things right again. No dont worry, this isn't another rescue Peach from Bowser ordeal. Mario meets up with FLUDD, a similar machine to the vacume cleaner in Luigi's Mansion, except it squirts water. Together, your goal is to catch the imposter and clear your good name. There are 6 worlds with 11 episodes(levels) each. Instead of stars, you try to gather Shine Sprites. The Shine Sprites will bring the beauty bacj to Isle Delfino. I believe there are over 100 Sprites you can gather. In Mario Sunshine you can do...
