Fenugreek + other doctor-prescribed tips to increase milk supply
I had to get medical therapy to increase my milk supply for twins. Fenugreek was prescribed and it made a huge difference. Based on what the doctor told me you can try the following if you have twins or simply need to increase your milk supply:* Fenugreek is very helpful, 2 capsules three times a day with meals, eventually working your way up to 4 capsules per meal. The body gets used to it after a while so the doctor suggested going off it for a couple of days and restarting.* Nurse 8-12x a day, putting each baby to breast until they empty it (do not time it) - the baby is much more effective than the pump at drawing the milk out than even a hospital pump, and will help increase your supply. In effect, interrupting the feeding could be counterproductive.* You can decrease the # of sessions if the amount pumped is more than 1000 ml/ 24 hrs (try pumping instead of nursing for one day to measure). You can also try weighing the baby to calculate...

Excellent resource for increasing your milk supply
My milk supply began to decrease significantly after I started back to work (my son was about six month's old at this time). I took -- and still take, 3 tablets of fenugreek and blessed thistle each per day at least twice a day. If I am not able to pump, I add another round of the herbs and let my son nurse more, to keep my milk supply going strong. This is a wonderful blessing to know that my milk supply can easily be reestablished, if stress, schedule or other factors inhibit our desire to feed the old fashion way! Five stars for fenugreek (and blessed thistle, too!) As a side note, the lactation nurses have told me, that these herbs do lower your blood sugar, so they should be taken with food. I say that from experience. All in all, it more than met my expectations.

Works for me to increase breastmilk supply!
In preparation for going back to work, I was worried that I wouldn't be able to keep my breastmilk supply up to keep up with my baby. I tried Motherlove More Milk Two Alcohol Free because Motherlove was recommended for increasing breastmilk supply in a pamphlet I got from my lactation consultant. It didn't work for me. So then I tried More Milk Plus Alcohol Free. That also didn't work for me. Finally after talking to a couple of people, they recommended Fenugreek, which I had read about before, but wanted to give Motherlove's More Milk product line a try because of all the great reviews I read. I ordered Motherlove's Fenugreek, and finally my breastmilk supply started to go up.Before Motherlove's Fenugreek, I was pumping every 2.5 to 3 hours on average and getting about 3 ounces total (1 to 1.5 oz on left side and 1.5 to 2 oz on right side). By the time I finished a 4 oz bottle of Motherlove's Fenugreek, I was still pumping every 2.5 to 3 hours but getting 4 to 5 oz total...

Great Product
I originally bought Fenugreek from GNC (100 capsules @ 610mgs) for about $20. This 2-pack is a fantastic price. Also, the capsules are much much smaller, and still 620mgs per capsule. I am using this for lactation which requires taking several a day, so the smaller capsules are a huge advantage! I have bought this several times from Amazon.

Works Well Enough
I just returned to work and switched to mostly pumping and nursing only a few times through the night/evening. I saw that my milk supply went down but I tried Blessed Thistle with Fenugreek seeds like my LC suggested and I smell like maple syrup. Lol. There was a slight increase in supply; enough for me to continue to exclusively BF my little one, so I call it a success.

Definitely increased milk production
These pills did the job for me. I take 3 pills twice a day and my milk production is very good. I exclusively pump and get about 50 oz a day. Two problems: First is I smell like maple syrup. It could be worse...I mean I could smell like fish or garlic from my supplements. Maple syrup isn't that bad! Secondly- and this one is bad- these pills give me horrible gas. I had no problems with gas in my pregnancy, this is the only new thing in my diet, so I'm guessing that it's from these pills. When this batch is gone I think I'm going to switch to Blessed Thistle to see if I have less gas with that.

I finally have enough milk!
This product actually brought my milk production up! I wish I knew about it the week I gave birth so not to introduce bottles and supplements which have caused nipple confusion for my baby. Once using it I finally have enough milk to eliminate all formula supplements and my 2 month old hasn't had any formula in one month (although he still likes the breast milk served in a bottle better). He was getting 2 meals of formula a day since I could not keep up with his hunger. I did not know about the capsules before so I was using the Mother's Milk tea but that did not do anything significant. I took 3 capsules at a time, 3 times a day until I finished the bottle. The dosage was approved by my lactation consultant and I also read about it in the Breastfeeding Mother's Guide to Making More Milk. I did smell like maple syrup during that time but it was worth it. After stopping the pills I am still able to keep up and even increase the milk supply depending on how often I pump. I highly...

It works!
I was having supply issues, so I was told to try Fenugreek. I saw measurable changes within 12 hours. For the next 2 weeks, my supply drastically improved with regular use of these capsules. It tapered off after that, but I was told to stop for a few days and restart, and it definitely boosted my supply again on the second restart. It is true; I did smell like maple syrup, but a small price to pay for being able to keep up with my baby's feeding demands.

Nursing mom
I am a nursing mom who relies on fenugreek to keep my milk production up. I first started taking the Natures Way fenugreek and had tremendous luck. My milk levels started to drop a bit so I decided to switch up the brand. So glad I did! This stuff did help kick my production back up and I am very happy. I take 4 pills 3 times per day which was the same for the Natures Way. I don't notice the maple syrup smells like others have commented on but I do know this stuff works. The color of the herb inside the capsule is also a little different vs. the Nature Way so I know there is a slight difference...although, not exactly sure what it is. I am here to purchase another 3 bottles...

Great quality
I've used Fenugreek in the past to increase milk production when I was breast feeding. While I'm currently not breastfeeding, I decided to start taking it again. The reason - it makes your body odors smell like maple syrup! As weird as this may seem, I just wanted to be able to sweat and not smell like onions, and this did the job after taking it for one day. No side effects, other than it does seem to make your bust fuller, not drastically, hardly noticeable, but I can tell a slight difference. I gave it 5 stars since this particular brand seems to be pretty potent compared to what I used to take. I noticed the maple syrup smell after a few days with the old stuff, this worked after one day, and doesn't have a weird smell to it, making it easy for me to swallow.

Fenugreek

p Fenugreek also grows easily in containers, making it a great edible to grow on a balcony or where space is limited. Like lettuce, fenugreek is a fast-growing cut-and-come-again crop, good for about three successive harvests. Because fenugreek is a legume, it’s a soil builder, useful for breaking up hard-packed clay soil or as a green manure for new beds. It’s easy to think of fenugreek as something you're more likely to find in a spice rack than in a garden, but with almost no effort, it's easy to keep in both places. in Hindi, fenugreek seeds are available at Indian or Middle Eastern grocery stores. Now is the time to plant fenugreek because spring and fall crops are generally milder in taste. Fenugreek originated in western Asia and southern Europe, where it was used as a medicine, food and forage crop. Fenugreek doesn’t like intense heat, doing best under 80 degrees. “You have to grow quite a bit,” said Rishi Kumar, who runs the Growing Home purban farm in Diamond Bar. “It makes a great living mulch,” said Kumar, who usually has at least three beds going, planted in two-week intervals for a continual harvest.

Fenugreek seeds for mastitis or engorgement Conclusion: The use of fenugreek significantly increased volume of breastmilk produced. If you are taking fenugreek for low supply, and are having problems with oversupply when taking this herb, it may be questionable whether you needed to increase supply in the first place. In one study of ten women, “the use of fenugreek significantly increased volume of breastmilk” [ Swafford 2000 ]. Mothers generally notice an increase in production 24-72 hours after starting the herb, but it can take two weeks for others to see a... Fenugreek can be used either short-term to boost milk supply or long-term to augment supply and/or pumping yields. Another reason for these types of symptoms –and perhaps more likely than a reaction to the herb– may be that mom’s supply has increased due to the fenugreek and the symptoms are those of oversupply , where baby is getting too much foremilk. Fenugreek seeds can be obtained in the bulk food section of some health food stores, or you may be able to find them at a store that specializes in Indian or other eastern foods. Pour that water off the next day (or drink it – it’s fenugreek tea) and rinse seeds with clear water. One way to determine if you’re taking the correct dosage is to slowly increase the amount of fenugreek until your sweat and urine begin to smell like maple syrup.

When the chicken is  light brown, and the oil seems to leave the sides of the pan (watch for this, as this means that the spice mix is almost cooked), and the onions kind of mushed up,  add the yogurt mix to the pan, cover with a tight fitting lid... In the mean time combine the  left over marinade with the corn flour and yogurt mix, If you are using the kasuri methi/dried fenugreek leaves, add them to the yogurt mix. Add this mix to the already marinated chicken and toss well so all the chicken pieces are really well coated with this yogurt mix. It is almost a one pot curry where everything goes in the spiced oil and gets cooked slowly while one waits without doing much until the chicken gets cooked. When the spices start to sizzle and releases the aroma, add the sliced onion, the ginger garlic onion paste,  and the half teaspoon of sugar. Instead I decided to add methi/fenugreek leaves to it. The rest of the ingredients remain the same. If you are using the fresh methi/fenugreek leaves, add them now. In went the spices and the onions and it was not until they starting browning and mushing up, I realized the planned simple chicken curry with yogurt was not how it was made. make sure they are well done without burning, so controlling the heat and stirring and scraping very frequently is the way to do it. If these are not well cooked, the sauce gets grainy and the curry will have a strange raw uncooked incomplete taste. Cook the chicken on each side while tossing them midway, so all the sides are light brown. Place wide bottomed pan on the stove with oil in it. Add the peppercorns, cinnamon, cardamom and the bay leaf and allow the oil to heat up – a couple of minutes.

The seeds are also known to be used my lactating moms to increase their milk supply (the fenugreek seeds are a source of galactogogue ). In India the seeds are used to condition hair and skin. The seeds are used as a spice for seasoning and very rarely used as a main dish as in this unique recipe (Fenugreek Seeds with Potatoes). this draft has been sitting in my folder since then – don’t know why I never posted it. For those of you who are not familiar with what fresh fenugreek leaves look like, I have photos of the fresh leaves. When the seeds sizzle, add the garlic, onions and the fresh chopped methi/fenugreek. Last summer I grew a whole lot of methi/fenugreek in my yard.
