I like my little chicken
This is a good, unique little item. I put the chicken on my keys mainly for decoration, but I've also noticed that it has a therapeutic effect when driving. When I find myself anxious behind the wheel, the chicken is always there to lighten the mood. The product is high-quality and strong-necked, although if one was determined, the head could easily tear off.

Be careful!
I had one of these as a kid but my mom threw it away because she said it was too weird xD So I bought it again but you really need to be careful. I had this hung on my lanyard for school, but when I was getting out of the car one day it got caught between a book and the chicken was pulled and it detached form the chain. The chain goes through the back of the chicken's neck to it can be easily ripped off. I find it funny and cool, just be careful about it ripping.

Awesome....just as advertised
I gave this to my son as a Christmas gift. For some strange reason, he loves rubber chickens. This is a smaller version, a key chain. He loved it and plays with it all the time. Good quality...as key chains and rubber chickens go.

Chickens here we come!
I am a budding homestead farmer and am in the market for chicken information. This book is a great start to the chicken information highway. It is presented in everyday language and takes the viewpoint that no question is too dumb to ask. I love the everyday information and observations mixed in with the technical knowledge needed to raise your chicks. Something that suprised me is the thickness of the pages. They are cardstock thickness and considering how much rereading a beginner like me will do, I appreciate the longevity these pages will have. Great work Jenna, it is a great compliment to Made From Scratch!

Product Description

Chickens are the hottest new backyard “pet”! It seems that every Tom, Dick, and Susan wants to raise chickens in his or her backyard, whether that yard is one square foot or one hundred. There’s nothing more local than an egg freshly laid right in your own yard. But what should you expect when you’re adopting a couple of day-old chicks? In Chick Days, Jenna Woginrich, award-winning author of Made from Scratch, the homesteading memoir for the twenty-something generation, offers a highly entertaining and informative photographic guide for today’s fledgling chick parent. Fun for the complete newbie and for families with young children, Chick Days chronicles the journey of three chickens from newly hatched fluffy butterballs to grown hens laying eggs. Day by day and week by week, readers watch the three starring chickens grow and change, learning about chicken behavior, feeding requirements, housing, hygiene, and health-care essentials, and fun facts on all things poultry. As Jenna herself says, “Chickens are more than 12-piece buckets, country diner kitsch, and egg whites. They’re your backyard ambassadors to healthier eating and basic husbandry. Keeping chickens is a crash course in local eating. When you start collecting eggs you’ll be eating so local you’ll know the amount of cracked corn in the feeder at ground zero of your breakfast . . . ”
Jenna’s witty commentary is accompanied by the photography of Mars Vilaubi, who raised the three chickens himself, along with his wife and son. Their accompanying “chick diary” notes particular things this family learned and did along the way to make chicken raising fun. Presenting just the essential information in a highly visual and inviting format, Chick Days makes every stage of chicken life fun, entertaining, and, most of all, doable. It’s sure to give any chicken lover or wannabe owner the confidence and enthusiasm to join the flock!

Where Was This Book Last Year?
I started raising chickens last year. Before that I read a lot of chicken books and got some necessary basic information. Many of the books were much too technical for my level and/or for what I wanted to know. The wonderful thing about this book is the way it's written. Every subject area starts off and ends with simple, thorough explanations for the reader. After reading a page or two, I invariably realize that I fully understand what normally would have been confusing and complicated. I keep it by my recliner, open it anywhere, read the page and learn something new every time. I seriously doubt that I will ever need to buy another book about chickens.

All of the Answers in One Place
I bought a number of books on chickens two years ago when I was first entertaining the idea of keeping hens. I can toss them all out now that I have this book. I sure wish it was out when I started this project! Everything you really need to know to raise chickens is in this book. The authors give clear and reasonable recommendations on vaccinations, worming, feeding... just about everything you can think of. The book is easy to use and clearly organized. It's also engagingly written. I have more confidence in my chicken-keeping after reading this book.

A must have book
This book is the ultimate in chicken books and I have a bunch of them! If I had to pick out one chicken book to give as a gift or to recommend to a new chicken person it would be a copy of this one. And if for some reason the book doesn't have the answer to the question you have then the people on the website listed on the cover will have it and they are very helpful! The book is easy to read and very easy to understand. Get a copy today! Mine didn't come from Amazon but it is so good that I want to give it 5 stars and let everyone know about it! And I very rarely review anything. This deserves my review! Signed the Mrs of the account holder and yes, I am a chicken addict! Now go buy a copy of this book and get yourself some pets that will make you breakfast! :)

He caught her and held her under his arm while I had a look and tried to clean her up. When we did look we saw she had a prolapse, which basically means that part of her inside egg laying passage had come out when she laid the egg. When I went to collect the egg there was blood on the egg and in the nesting box. When chickens first start laying their first eggs are often smaller. Caleb was walking around the garden and shouted from the sandy patch near the braai where the chickens like to sit, that Jack Hen had laid another egg. The trouble was that she would probably already have an egg ready for the next day so it might take a while to stop her laying and each time she did it would get worse. Yesterday Rachel collected Jack Hen’s egg from the nesting box. I had not see the 2 fat chickens peak her at all during the day but we cleaned it and seperated her for the night in a box inside. I am happy to say that she lays about 5 out of 7 days a week and has had not repeat prolapse. By mid day I decided that she wanted to be out and it looked okay so to let her out, as she was probably going to lay anyway.
