Must have
DaVinci cribs are nice wood cribs that convert to a full (or twin) bed. But to convert, you need the Conversion Rail Kit. We converted our Emily crib, the full bed is a nice piece of furniture for our child. We had no need for the toddler bed / crib anymore. The full bed doesn't look like a manipulated former crib. The Conversion Rail Kit seems like it's an original part of the full bed. So this Conversion Kit is a 'must have' item if you own one of the DaVinci convertible cribs and want to get the max mileage out of it, especially when you have matching dressers. Top to learn more

Work well
It took about 45 mins to transform the toddler bed to a 'big girl bed'. Everything fit together perfectly. You do need a full box spring and matress. The box spring is what rests on the rails and supports the mattress.My only complaint is not with the rails, but with the total design of the bed. When it was a crib and then a toddler bed the parts linked up in different places. Now as a full bed these places are exposed and show some wear. Top to learn more

If you use a box spring with the full size mattress you do not need to worry about having any support or adding any additional support for the bed which is what I read as an issue in other reviews. I did not give it 5 stars because the bolts that came with the conversion crib rails were actually the wrong size and it actually took my husband a little extra time to realize that the some of the bolts used in the crib assembly (thankfully we save these) were able to work. I don't know if this is how it is supposed to be or if ours was a fluke. The instructions are very very vague. Otherwise I am very happy with how our crib/toddler bed converted to a full. YOu really can't tell that it was once her crib! Top to learn more

I guess we can figure it out on our own.
Um, ok, super excited to get my 5-year-old twins their new twin bunk beds.... got their room ready, opened the boxes that were shipped fast and safe.... NO INSTRUCTIONS!?!?! REALLY!!!!!??????That's all I have to say right now.*update*Almost one week into using the new bunk beds, and the kids are so happy! (We're happy we got the instructions via e-mail on a Sunday afternoon.) Got 6" twin mattresses [...] which are good, but seem a bit small for the bed frames. Recommend something perhaps a bit bigger, or need some kind of tube pillow to ensure no dolls or things fall at the space between the mattress and the frame. Also, with the bottom bunk, the side where my child enters the bed is a bit hard on the shins, so we're looking into some kind of cushions for the side rail.All-in-all, seems like a really good deal!

all the features in one crib
I was on the fence about spending $600 on a solid crib or this one. I finally decided on this one because as it turned out, the expensive Sorelle also used cam-locks on most of their cribs. So that was the deal breaker. The Kalani is sturdy despite the few cam-locks. Grandpa had no problem with the assembly and finished within an hour. This is for my 3rd child as I converted the old one already. Features that were hard to find in one crib but offered in this one:1. rich cherry finish that complements other cherry furniture in the baby's room.2. heavy and sturdy3. 4 height settings. Perfect for a shorty like me to easily set down a sleepy baby. most cribs only offer 3 settings that are either too far apart or does not make much of a difference.4. mattress springs. i don't like slats or MDF panel to support my bouncing baby boy. slats are a pain to adjust and MDP could slip and slide around.5. toddler rail is... absolutely beautiful and no problem with scratching
I scoured reviews to find the best crib for our baby. The Da Vinci Emily was top-rated by Consumer Reports, but this one wasn't rated at all. The Emily and the Kalani seem very similar, and this one was rated just as well by all the online reviews, so we bought this one in espresso after months of charting out the positives and negatives of all the espresso cribs I could find.First, the positives. It took my husband and I about two hours to assemble this crib. We weren't in a hurry, and the directions were straightforward, but it just took some time to make sure it was all put together correctly. The wood is gorgeous! It's an absolutely beautiful espresso and matches our other espresso furniture perfectly. Everyone is stunned by how lovely this crib is!We've moved once with it already - had to unassemble and reassemble - which was no problem. Solid crib with horrible finish.
First the good. The crib is beautiful and it's very sturdy. The wood is great and I do love it. It is a little difficult for me because I'm short and the front doesn't go down, but I also like it for the same reason. There are no moveable parts to pinch little fingers. I like how the whole crib doesn't move when my daughter jumps up and down.But, the finish is terrible. It scratches extreamly easily and there are teeth marks all up and down the rails. I scratched it on accident with just my fingernail. We are going to have to refinish it when my daughter is older. Top to learn more

Great crib at a great price!
My wife and I just finished putting this crib together. It took a total of 25 minutes start to finish. The instructions were extremely easy to follow. We bought this exact crib in honey oak 18 months ago for baby number one and it has worked so well, we ordered the same crib in white for baby number two. Our original crib is in the same great shape as when we first put it together. The only adjustments we have done, where to lower the mattress support heights from higher to lower. Even that process only took a matter of minutes. I have read crib purchase reviews where the box arrived extremely beat up. When ours arrived the outside of the box was a little rough, but the crib pieces inside are very well packed, padded, and wrapped and there was not a scratch on the white finish. One flaw
Our son is now 18months old and this crib has been amazing. Yes I agree that it does scratch easily but it is solid and very sturdy. Our only complaint is that the front rail that curves out to the front of the crib has a gap just wide enough for our son to stick his arm into and get it stuck. Now that he is starting to try to put his leg over the crib it gets stuck in there too. We have since moved him to a toddler bed but the arm getting stuck has been an ongoing thing since he was alittle past 12 months old. Other than that we love the crib and plan on using it for all of our babies, though we may make our own alterations on it to prevent our 3 month old from going through the same thing with getting his arm stuck.If you do have this crib always remember to keep your monitor on and loud enough to where you can hear the cries if a little arm gets stuck. Overall, very nice... Good for the price
EDIT: The below was written right after we built the bed. We bought from Mom's Bunk House, they really are great, small family owned company, took care of us. We had a problem with one of the parts, they got it swapped right out.Anyway, as for the bed itself, we still love it. Very nice overall. We would buy it again, so no problems there. I will say that it took longer than we expected to build, it was an all afternoon project, it does require two people to do it right, and you need a drill, don't try this with just hand tools. The kids love it, again, very happy----------------------------------It is cheap furniture... Don't expect high end stuff here, the whole thing is very cheaply made. Don't get me wrong, it isn't particle board, it really is solid wood in most places, enginered wood in others, not a bit of particle board or plywood in sight. My kid's favorite bed ever
My boys just LOVE this bed!! It was a bit difficult to put together but well worth it. They actually race to see who will make it to bed first at night! I can't say anything bad about it.
